Traveling can be an exciting and enjoyable experience, but planning a trip can often be stressful, time-consuming and lead to a poor outcome. Luckily, planning trips just got a lot easier with iOS and the millions of apps in the iOS App Store. There is a plethora of travel apps for iOS to help you plan your trip, book flights and find the best deals. Personally, I am in the process of booking an autumn trip with multiple flights, hotels and countries. The three apps I’m going to mention made planning this trip much, much easier.

If you are a travel and credit card hacking veteran then this post may not be for you. I will primarily focus on the apps that help you get the best deals from a dollar perspective, not points/miles redemption. Let’s begin!
FareDrop is one of my absolute favorite apps for helping me find the best flight deals. If you have a flexible schedule and like to travel cheaply, you’ve come to the right place at FareDrop. This app is the brainchild of travel YouTubers Kara and Nate. They wanted to help people find cheap travel options so they could explore the world the way they did.
FareDrop works by tracking price drops and notifying you when an offer becomes available. The app tracks prices for specific flights and sends notifications when the price drops so you can book the flight for less. It’s easy to set up – all you have to do is select a few of the local airports near you, then it uses that information to find flights from that origin airport. The prices on the dashboard are return prices. So you can see NYC to DC is only $108!
FareDrop dashboard
FareDrop offers you a free standard service for domestic flights in economy class. There are two other plans worth considering, especially if you plan to fly internationally. The first paid plan costs $49 per year and gives you the same alert system, but also includes international economy flights. The second and highest tier gives you access to domestic and international business class travel for $99 per year. So if you want to treat yourself to business class but still pay a lot less, the Global Pro Plan might be for you. I booked a few domestic flights with it and it saved me hundreds of dollars just waiting for notifications. It is constantly being improved and updated.
Hopper is another iOS app designed to help you find the best deals on flights. The app uses advanced algorithms to predict when airfares are likely to be lowest and can even suggest the best time to book your flight. Hopper claims it can save users up to 40% on their flights by finding the best deals.
One of Hopper’s best features is its price tracking feature. You can set up alerts for specific flights and the app will notify you when the price drops. You can also use the app to search for flights and compare prices from different airlines. Hopper also offers a fare calendar that shows the best days to fly for the cheapest fares.
Hopper not only gives you prices for flights, but also lets you book hotels, rental cars and even Airbnb-style car rentals. Over the years, Hopper has added a wealth of features such as free rewards, Carrot Cash and even their own shop. Its main features are free to use, but you can buy things like Hopper Matches, where Hopper credits up to $20 when you deposit funds into their Carrot Cash system, and more.
Some have said that Hopper added almost too many features and functionality — almost to the point where it’s a bit complicated — but if you’ve used Hopper in the past, you know how valuable it can be when you Plan trips months in advance. The price calendar and alert system alone make Hopper worth trying out.
Flighty is the new kid on the block. I heard about it when Live Activity was introduced in iOS 16 and I started seeing a really cool flight tracker on users’ lock screens. Flighty is a little different from the first two apps I mentioned. Flighty is mainly used to keep track of your upcoming or current flight. But it offers so much more information than you ever thought possible.
Volatile live activity
Of course, you get the usual things like flight duration, departure and arrival, but it goes a lot further. It helps you keep up to date with all changes to your flights, from delays to cancellations. The app uses machine learning algorithms to predict potential problems with your flights and can even suggest alternative flights in the event of disruptions. This allows you to plan for any delays and avoid any surprises at the airport.
One of Flighty’s best features is its ability to track your flights in real time. The app uses data from multiple sources to provide accurate information about your flight, including gate changes and estimated departure and arrival times. It can also provide push notifications of changes in your flight status, so you’re always up to date.
Then my favorite part of the app is the flight log. Flighty starts tracking how many miles you’ve flown, which flights you’ve operated, from which airports and how many countries you’ve visited. There is a free trial that unlocks all the cool services and costs $49.99 per year. If you travel more than once a year I think it’s worth it!
