It was just a week ago when a character tweet for Suha’s Tandon from 3 Idiots, played by actor Olivier Lafont, caused a huge buzz on social media. The viral note caught the attention of Lafont, who now reveals he’s being bombarded with apology messages online. In a Facebook post, the actor highlighted how people have admitted to understanding his character, which has shown to be obsessed with money and status. He was thrilled to see that Suhas still has such a huge impact on audiences.
Lafont expressed that recent conversations about his role have led to a balanced understanding of money and its value in life. The actor is more than happy to have received so much love a decade after the film’s release. “Lately I’ve been getting messages from people ‘apologizing’ for misunderstanding the character of Suha’s Tandon, who I played in the movie ‘3 Idiots’ many years ago, and then this post went from Aaraynsh Singh viral, who highlighted the conversation about a balanced understanding and appreciation of money’s place in life. It’s amazing that both the film and the character made such an impact then and still do today. It’s also nice that Suhas is finally getting some love,” Lafont wrote.
Twitter user Aaraynsh Singh, who originally shared his viral take on Suhas, also thanked the actor for sharing his opinion. “So finally this tweet reached the real Suhas of the movie 3 Idiots aka Olivier Lafont. I wish he had said “dedh lakh ki baat kahi”. Jokes aside, thanks for sharing your opinion,” he wrote in another comment.

It all started when the Twitter user revealed he laughed at Suhas in 3 Idiots, but as he grew up he finally came to the conclusion that the character was nothing but a good man and a real hero. He felt the frustration of losing valuable things bought with hard-earned money. In the film, Suhas loses his fiancée Pia (played by Kareena Kapoor) not once but twice because he was overly concerned with expensive things.
Many online users are happy that the conversation led to a response from Lafont. One user wrote: “Gold! That tweet is now worth lakhs.”
Another added that the tweet gets the appreciation it deserves.
Another added: “That was so unexpected.”
Meanwhile, one user joked, “And the fact is, both Suhas and Aryansh would be more likely to have the love of their lives, in real life, Kareena na sahi!”
Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, 3 Idiots is based on the novel Five Point Someone by author Chetan Bhagat and stars Aamir Khar, R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi.
