There is nothing better than the smell of fresh coffee in the morning. But to get there, you’ll either have to fire up the coffee maker, choose your preferred artisan brewing method, or leave your home for a cup of coffee at a coffee shop. Hoping to make coffee-making a lot easier, California-based company Advencher has come up with a clever device called the FinalPress. It was developed to save you a lot of effort – and not least money – in your daily coffee consumption.
“We needed a brewer to make delicious coffee with minimal time and effort, but we couldn’t find anything on the market,” explain the makers of FinalPress. “They were all too bulky, difficult to clean, and made of plastic parts, so we decided to create this one!” After two years of development, FinalPress made it onto Kickstarter, where it sold over 10,000 units in the first run. “FinalPress is a simple, zero-waste, portable, and multifunctional coffee and tea maker that’s great for home, outdoors, camping, and travel,” the company says.
Despite being a device the size of your hand, the FinalPress promises you total control over the strength of your drinks. Whether it’s your timeless cup of coffee, a flavorful homemade cold brew, or your favorite tea, this versatile device brews it right in your favorite mug. Not only does this reduce waste, but it also saves you from cleaning additional utensils or equipment. Made from stainless steel, the company promises the FinalPress can last a lifetime. The FinalPress is also environmentally friendly, as neither paper filters nor coffee capsules are required.
How does FinalPress work? It follows the principles of one of coffee lovers’ favorite tools – the French Press. To get your drink ready, three simple steps are enough. First, fill the filter with your favorite coffee or tea. Next, stir the little device around the hot water or milk in your cup. Finally, simply squeeze the plunger, which is powered by springs, and your drink is ready.
Each FinalPress comes with a carrying case. For the cold brew lovers, it also features a custom made stainless steel jar lid to fit most regular mason jars you have at home. The process is still quite simple compared to hot drinks. “Instead of hot water, you put cold water in the glass,” the company explains. “Place FinalPress in the jar, close our custom made lid and leave in the fridge overnight. Our system works by brewing coffee grounds in cold water. The stainless steel micron filter creates and preserves perfectly balanced, smooth tasting flavors every time, leaving the bitter oil and fatty acids behind.”
While the concept of making just one cup of coffee at a time sounds imaginative, it might not be ideal for sharing with a partner or preparing multiple cups for a get-together. In such cases, the good old coffee maker would be the most practical option. Unless you’re treating yourself to an extra FinalPress for the person you’re sharing your coffee with, this invention seems to be the best for those who view their time enjoying a cup as time to themselves.
Whatever the case, the tremendous success of the original campaign inspired the creators of FinalPress to take it back to where it all began. Now they have launched FinalPress 2.0 on Kickstarter and have surpassed their original goal many times over. Taking feedback from original backers into account, the laser-cut filter now features a hexagonal honeycomb pattern that prevents coffee grounds from sticking, making cleaning easier.

With the fundraiser still 15 days to go, FinalPress has already raised over $988,000! This is an incredible win for the design, which originally aimed for just $5,000.
