With the vernal equinox of 2023 approaching, there is less and less time to celebrate Apple’s annual developer conference (WWDC). A priori it is conceivable that the WWDC will take place in June 2023 and in it Apple will present all the news related to iOS 17 and other software versions of its main operating systems such as the counterpart iPadOS 17, tvOS 17, watchOS 10 or macOS 14.
While on the one hand we have received many rumors about the iPhone 15 and other future devices… on the other hand Apple has not let any leaks about iOS 17 escape. The only thing we know for sure right now is that iOS 17 will feature few changes and will focus on improving the stability and efficiency of the software. But here’s some of the iOS 17 news we’re all hoping to see when it debuts at WWDC in 2023.
What’s new in iOS 17
The full-development version of iOS 17 has been codenamed “Dawn” by Apple software engineers. This could give us a small clue as to what’s new in iOS 17, or it’s simply nomenclature referring to the design style of the system’s user interface. Be that as it may, there are certain new features that many users of the Apple ecosystem are expecting with the new update.
Redesign of the app library
Introduced with the arrival of iOS 14, the Application Library offers a folder-organized view of applications. The idea is good, but the execution not so much. It has proven to be not that functional and not many users use it on a daily basis. The culprit is the implementation in the software and not the own concept itself.
With iOS 17, we expect Apple to redesign certain fundamental aspects of the app library. Apps are automatically classified into categories, causing a lot of confusion. In addition, it hardly allows any adjustments. The Apps Library folders only show 4 app icons and to access the rest you have to click on them. It’s not the most intuitive thing in the world. Yes, it’s a visual delight, and its animations are exquisite. But it needs more functionality.
App downloads via Safari
The App Store will open the way to third-party alternatives
The European Union and the new Digital Market Law will force Apple to open up its ecosystem a little more and allow alternatives to the App Store to enter. What exactly does that mean? Basically, iPhone users can download applications from stores other than the App Store.
This means Apple will allow distribution of apps from other platforms in iOS 17, including downloading and installing apps from Safari. The company has to adapt its operating system to make room for this functionality. We believe the freedom to download apps from Safari is a breakthrough, even if you don’t actually download anything, being able to do so is a huge step forward.
Improving Siri with artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence is trending thanks to the launch of several AI models in the market. It’s so common that it’s even possible to replace Siri with ChatGPT via shortcut on iPhone.
Siri has received major updates with iOS 15 and with iOS 16, but it still doesn’t reach the level of functionality of other voice assistants. Apple should use the pull of artificial intelligence and create its own model to adapt it to the Siri system. This would allow the iPhone voice assistant to be much more talkative and offer greater versatility of use.

Like chatting from messages while checking the calendar or reading messages while visiting the App Store. The company recently added Picture-in-Picture compatibility to the iPhone, so this should be the next step in multitasking.
