TAF-COP Portal: For all Indians, an Aadhaar card is an important piece of identification. Everything from opening a bank account to getting a wifi connection at home requires an Aadhaar card. You can use your Aadhaar card on numerous platforms. Many people have access to your card, whether intentionally or unintentionally. It is possible for someone to misuse your Aadhaar card. One place where your Aadhaar can be misused is when acquiring a SIM card.
In some cases it is possible that the identification you gave to remove your SIM card could be used by fraudsters to have a new SIM card issued in your name. For example, if a person or the company that issued you the SIM card uses your Aadhaar card or other identification document to issue another SIM card in your name without your consent, it is possible that someone else could use that number used without your knowledge, and in some cases it can get you in serious trouble.
To counter such abuses, the government has developed a website to prevent such incidents in the future and allow users to check whether another user is using their SIM card or not.
