For years, the only way to create a blockbuster movie with a Hollywood star and dazzling special effects was in a big studio. The Hollywood giants were the those who could afford to pay celebrities millions of dollars and license sophisticated software to produce lavish, special-effects-laden movies. That’s about to change, and the public is getting a preview thanks to artificial intelligence (AI) tools like DALL-E and OpenAI’s Midjourney.

“We took a step back on Stability AI and decided not to release version 1.5 as quickly as we released previous checkpoints,” wrote Stability.AI Chief Information Officer, Daniel Jeffries, on October 20. “We’ve heard from regulators and the general public that we need to focus more on security to make sure we’re taking every step possible to ensure people aren’t using Stable Diffusion for illegal purposes or people are too violate.”
This extra caution from the Stable Diffusion team may be welcomed by film and music studios (there is a AI music generation Tool in progress) that could be influenced by AI generation tools in the coming months and years.
Still, the next independent film starring one’s favorite actor could soon be produced in the bedroom of someone using an AI video generator to create unlikely Hollywood mashups and post them on the internet, legal ramifications damn it.
