Bellevue Resort in Bohol, through its partner foundation Specialized Training and Education for Pilipino Students (Steps) Mission School, recently partnered with Anthony Wu and Jeannie Jin of Your Time Import and Export to open the Mobile Classroom of Hope for high school students in Barangay Doljo , Panglao.

The classroom serves primarily as a supplementary daycare center to teach children to read before entering elementary school. It also offers livelihood training programs for parents of enrolled students.

With a long-standing commitment to sustainability, Bellevue Resort ensures that this project is no exception. The resort uses its energy from solar panels to minimize environmental impact and maximize cost-efficiency, which is also a great opportunity to educate children about climate change and the importance of promoting sustainability.

“When we learned that 40 percent of fourth graders in public schools still cannot read, we thought of different ways we could help the community here in Bohol. And one of our best tools is to increase access to education,” shares Dustin Chan, General Manager of Bellevue Resort. “We are grateful to Steps and Your Time Import and Export for partnering with us to bring hope and guidance to children for a better future.”

Barangay Doljo Pre-School has 50 students who are supervised by two full-time and part-time teachers. The organization is also currently holding phonics courses for 80 first graders from various elementary schools in the local community.

With the addition of the Mobile Classroom of Hope, the project now has five existing classrooms. The lessons are completely free. Parents only have to sign a pledge to participate in the education of their children by continuing the education at home.

Since opening its School of Mission with Steps 10 years ago, Bellevue Resort has reaped the priceless rewards of thousands of graduates, including students who placed in the top 10 of their grades in elementary school.
