Bisk and Florida A&M University to Launch Cybersecurity Programs

$500,000 in scholarships are available for Florida students to pursue the growing cybersecurity industry

TAMPA, FLORIDA, Nov. 21, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ — Bisk, a global leader in online education, along with its partner Florida A&M University (FAMU), announced today that the College of Science & Technology FAMU has received a $1.42 million grant from the Florida Department of Education and the Florida Center for Cybersecurity to launch online cybersecurity boot camps and a certificate program for adult and college learners.

This collaborative project between Bisk and one of the leading public HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) will prepare women and minorities – both underrepresented populations in the industry – for careers in cybersecurity (the practice of protecting networks, programs and sensitive information from cyberattacks). . A portion of the grant (approximately $500,000) will be awarded for scholarships to those who meet the necessary criteria to transition into the cybersecurity workforce to address the shortage of cybersecurity professionals in the state of Florida, nationwide and globally.

“There is a serious shortage of cybersecurity professionals and under-representation of minorities and women in this space,” said Dr. Jennifer King, Vice President, Academic Success at Bisk. “This funding will provide Florida residents with access to virtual, instructor-led courses to pursue careers in this fast-growing, in-demand field and create a safer cyberspace.”

The 12-week full-time (Bootcamp #1), 24-week part-time (Bootcamp #2), and 48-week hybrid (Bootcamp #3; asynchronous self-paced content with instructor-led sessions) are being developed , prepare and improve student skills through virtual labs, assessments and real-life scenarios. The scholarship will provide 60 fully funded scholarships for the boot camps open to all Florida residents from underrepresented communities who have received their Graduate Equivalency Degree (GED). Students approaching their final semester of high school are also considered individually for the scholarships. Bootcamp #1 and #2 will start January 9, 2023, Bootcamp #3 will start in Spring 2023. The 32-week, 4-course Cyber Certificate program provides training in cybersecurity skills critical to defending the nation’s vital information assets. The program prepares students with a bachelor’s degree in fields such as information technology (IT) and computer science for work in a cyber-related profession. “The certificate program not only creates a pipeline for students wishing to enter the bachelor’s or master’s of science programs in cybersecurity – which began in fall 2022 – but also prepares them to successfully earn an industry certification,” said Dr . King. Registration information will follow shortly.

“FAMU provides students with an educational experience that is essential to their success and to advancing their future,” said Richard Alo, Ph.D., Dean of FAMU College of Science and Technology. “Providing scholarships and partnering with Bisk to deliver cybersecurity programs ensures this growing industry is represented and able to meet demand.”
