Bing Chat and ChatGPT are two of the newest natural language chatbots in widespread use, and both compete for your attention and text prompts. Both AIs are based on similar language models, but there are some notable differences between them that make the debate between ChatGPT and Bing Chat worthwhile.

Both Bing Chat and ChatGPT are available for general use, but the way you access them is slightly different.
ChatGPT is widely used and accessible through OpenAI’s main website. You can use ChatGPT for free once you create an account, and there are ways you can quickly access it from your desktop or Mac when you need it.
Bing Chat is also available, but you need to get special access. To join the waiting list, visit the official website and sign up. You should get access in the coming days or weeks as capacity increases.
Bing Chat is available on more platforms. Not only can you access it through the official website, but you can also access it through Bing on any supporting device. There are also Bing Chat integrations with Skype, Teams, and the Edge browser. ChatGPT is available in Slack and coming to Discord soon.
ChatGPT is free to use, but there is a premium paid tier known as ChatGPT Plus that offers greater access to the tool, including GPT-4. Bing Chat is completely free, but there is a limit of 15 conversations you can have per day and the conversation length is also limited to 2,000 characters per prompt or response. ChatGPT also has a character limit, but currently there is no limit to the number of conversations you can have per day.
What language models do ChatGPT and Bing Chat use?
The current version of ChatGPT, which you can access for free, is based on the GPT 3.5 language model. According to Microsoft, Bing Chat actually uses the more advanced GPT 4 model that was recently announced.
In theory, that means Bing Chat should be more useful. Just be careful that you don’t stray into wargame territory by playing certain games, as Bing Chat has been known to get a little existential at times.
Both ChatGPT and Bing Chat are based on the same basic language model, known as GPT-3.5. They have access to information up to and including 2021, giving them a lot of scope to answer natural language questions, and with relatively up-to-date information. However, this can leave gaps in their knowledge.
Bing Chat, on the other hand, has the ability to pull from newer web sources. It has also undergone additional training to make it more capable of following instructions and performing more nuanced tasks.
What can you do with ChatGPT and Bing Chat?
The core function of ChatGPT and Bing Chat is that they can understand when you ask them questions or make statements in natural, human language. Both services support a range of languages, although ChatGPT focuses more on English, where Bing Chat offers a wider range of non-English languages.
Both Bing Chat and ChatGPT can be used to research and ask questions beyond what traditional search engines can understand. For example, I used it for a recent article I wrote about Nvidia’s biggest failures, asking “What are the reasons for Nvidia’s biggest price declines?” when you type into Google search you could also paste it into one of these AI chatbots.
ChatGPT is particularly good at creative writing, so asking them to write something on a specific topic or in the style of another author will result in a very credible attempt to complete what you’re asking them to do. Note, however, that ChatGPT cannot verify itself against multiple sources, so errors can be introduced just as reliably as claims of fact.
Bing Chat isn’t quite as good at the style of writing, as it can’t provide lengthy answers and is driven more by facts than creative endeavors. However, Bing Chat has a number of discreet modes it can be switched into, making it a virtual assistant or a casual friend who chats with you about everyday life. It’s awesome to be able to choose between Creative, Balanced and Accurate so you can better direct your conversations towards your goal. ChatGPT’s one-size-fits-all approach requires a little more nuance and description in the prompts.

Is Bing Chat more accurate than ChatGPT?
Bing Chat has the potential to be more accurate than ChatGPT because it uses more up-to-date information and relies on multiple sources of information.
ChatGPT relies on a single source of data from its language model, so it doesn’t have access to more recent information and can’t cross-reference its answers to confirm accuracy.
Since Bing Chat is based on GPT-4, it should theoretically be a bit more powerful and nuanced than ChatGPT. The early testing of GPT-4 in ChatGPT Plus has shown some promising results so far, such as: B. A user’s success in creating a working Pong game in less than 60 seconds.
Regarding accuracy, the other interesting feature is that Bing Chat offers in its Learn More suggestions. Not only is this a more ethical and transparent way of displaying information, but it also gives you the power to move on – more like a proper search engine.

It can be great for prompts or proofreading something you’ve written.
Bing Chat is becoming more accessible as more companies partner with Microsoft and OpenAI to make Bing Chat available across a wider range of services. However, ChatGPT is also being adopted by a number of companies and services, so both will likely become more widely available in the near future.
When it comes down to it, the 15 conversations per day limit will likely get people to turn to ChatGPT first, allowing for further exploration without worrying about depleting your daily allowance.
