Commercial insurance giving Kentuckians more access to medication-assisted treatment provider for substance use disorder

DALLAS, Oct. 17, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Today, the Behavioral Health Group announced that all five drug-assisted recoverySM (MAR) Centers for Behavioral Health (CBH) treatment centers in Kentucky now accept insurance from Anthem and UnitedHealthcare. In addition, patients can receive Medicaid and Original Medicare treatment at no cost to themselves. The centers are located in Bowling Green, Elizabethtown, Frankfurt, Louisville and Richmond.

The CBH treatment centers, which accept appointments and walk-ins, are part of the nation’s largest Joint Commission-accredited network of outpatient substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and recovery centers. The centers include both an outpatient treatment program (OTP) and an outpatient opioid treatment program (OBOT) that allows for prescription drugs. They offer all three FDA-approved drugs to treat Opioid Use Disorder (OUD), namely methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone. The company’s comprehensive approach to treatment, medication options, counseling and recovery resources provides people with the care they need to stay alive, safe and on a long-lasting path to recovery. A public health crisis, opioid overdose deaths are the number one cause of accidental death in the United States today, surpassing car accidents in 2018. In 2021, the number of overdose deaths in this country increased by 30% and exceeded 100,000 for the first time. According to the National Center for Health Statistics and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) National Vital Statistics System (NVSS), Kentucky already had 3,552 reported opioid overdose deaths between January and April this year. Today, fentanyl is the leading cause of death for Americans ages 18 to 45, with 175 people dying each day.

“Our mission is to help people take their lives back,” said Amanda Karistai, BHG’s regional vice president. “We are excited to work as a provider in the UnitedHealthcare and Anthem network in Kentucky to help more people access quality care, and we will continue to work to expand coverage for Kentucky residents.”
