DC Child and Family Services Agency to Use Artificial Intelligence in Support of Child Welfare Programs

WASHINGTON, DC & SEATTLE–(BUSINESS WIRE). The platform provides the agency with an affordable, easy-to-scalable way to deliver motivational interviewing training, provide users with instant feedback, and offer detailed reports, including reports specifically focused on stock issues.

Building motivational interviewing skills is part of CFSA’s overall commitment to expanding the use of evidence-based practices in its programs, including those funded by the Family First Prevention Services Act. The Family First Act provides significant new funding for prevention services, with requirements to use evidence-based practices such as motivational interviewing.

“At CFSA, we recognize the potential of artificial intelligence and believe it will be most impactful when tailored to the needs of our employees and those we serve,” said Robert L. Matthews, director of DC Child and Family Services Agency. “The integration of technology into our practice supports and empowers social workers and community-based partners in their work and creates ongoing opportunities to improve their motivational interviewing skills when engaging families. As we continue our intentional shift toward the wellbeing of children and families, we are committed to innovation to shape the future of child protection practice in the district.”

Lyssn’s AI platform is based on the largest database of therapeutic interactions of its kind. It offers the most effective form of training: instruction, followed by practice, followed by direct feedback. While most programs only offer instruction, Lyssn AI gives clinicians and others the opportunity to practice their skills and then receive guidance on how to improve. In addition, the Lyssn AI platform enables comprehensive measurement and reporting of not just participation but actual skill improvement, as well as a comprehensive report on equity in relation to all populations served by CFSA.

David Atkins, Ph.D., Lyssn’s CEO, notes that child welfare services are an important part of the company’s DNA. “We have consciously and continuously worked with a variety of community and child protection organizations since the early days of our research at Lyssn,” noted Atkins. “We want every child and family to have access to the best possible support, which was also our motivation for developing a training tool – we understand that training is an ongoing function in childcare and wanted to have something available that made it easy.” and economically TU does it.”

Among the first child protection organizations to use Lyssn’s training tools, CFSA represents a growing number of jurisdictions that use Lyssn to support family first programs. Lyssn is currently supporting two state-level Title IV e-prevention plans with its quality improvement platform and evaluating records to assess the use of evidence-based practices in actual interactions with families.
