Does LG or Samsung have a catchier end-of-cycle song? TikTok is on the case.

When it comes to buying a new laundry unit, there are many factors to consider: the size of each wash, the number of cycle settings, special features like an automatic sensor or energy-saving mode, and according to TikTok, the almighty song at the end of the cycle. If you own a Samsung or LG device, you know that it’s not just a simple “beep”, it’s more of a melodic jingle that you just can’t get out of your head. In fact, these tunes are so catchy that Austin and Marideth Telenko, the dance duo behind popular @Cost_N_Mayor account, created a hilarious dance to the LG jingle, followed by another for Samsung’s offerings.

After hearing these jingles so many times — and okay, trying to follow the dance at least once — we couldn’t help but wonder which brand has the best lingerie jingle. But before you start analyzing each tune note by note, it’s important to know that neither LG nor Samsung wrote these songs from scratch. Internet sleuths agree that LG’s lively beat is a rendition of “The Lincolnshire Poacher,” an English folk song celebrating the joys of poaching. But while LG gave this 19th-century tune a short, lively twist, not everyone is on board with the tune. “The chime activated my fight or flight,” said one commenter on Telenko’s video, which garnered 1.2 million likes, over 9,000 comments and nearly 60,000 shares.

Although LG’s jingle might compel people to get their laundry done as quickly as possible, it’s considerably shorter than Samsung’s song, which lasts almost a minute. (In fact, the Telenko duo posted a revamped dance — which has 345,000 likes, nearly 3,800 comments, and over 8,000 shares — because they didn’t anticipate how long it would take.) “I feel rude if I interrupt it, so stand up I just sit there and stare at it until it’s done,” wrote one commenter.

It might be easy to write off Samsung’s choice of “Die Forelle” – a 19th-century German song about a man catching a trout, aptly translated as “Die Forelle” – as redundant, but the Japanese brand insists that her catchy tune was designed to make home a happier place. (Fun Fact: The song was chosen by a Samsung employee and implemented into its products over a decade ago.)

“The inclusion of this tune comes from Samsung’s belief that the home should be a place of comfort and that home appliances should fit naturally into consumers’ lifestyles, while the traditional, more industrial-sounding alerts from appliances can be uncomfortable and distracting” , a Samsung representative said Hunker.

So, which jingle is actually better? Well, it’s hard to say. If you just watch TikTok, more people liked and shared LG’s jingle, which means it resonates with more users. (Plus, the song has a brevity that’s very conducive to our busy lives on the go.) You can’t argue against Samsung’s mission to create a soothing atmosphere, though. And while we have to admit that a simple beep would suffice, both jingles transform something as mundane as washing up into a laugh-and-dance-inducing experience.
