Drive this Toyota if you love reliability, says a well-known internet mechanic

Toyota, Lexus, Honda and Acura have earned good reputations among car owners. These Japanese automakers are held in high esteem by both drivers and technicians. While there might be a few bad units here and there, the four manufacturers are known and loved for the simple yet robust powertrains they’ve developed over time.

Known as the Car Wizard, David Long has impressed many Americans with his skill and unabashed honesty. One of the things that got him some internet fame was his collaborations with various YouTube stars. He also runs a very successful business in Newton, Kansas called the Omega Auto Clinic. So now you know you’re in good hands. This recommendation is made by someone who has the expertise to advise undecided buyers on what their first or next vehicle should be.

Car Wizard decided to share his opinion on this eight-year-old Toyota SUV, calling it a “must see,” essentially suggesting it’s earned its seal of approval. It’s the 2015 4Runner. The Japanese car brand has been producing the vehicle for quite some time. Launched globally in 1984, the SUV is now in its fifth generation and badly in need of a proper upgrade. Fortunately, for the 2024 model year we’ll be getting a new SUV based on the same platform as the all-new Tundra.

The mechanic argues that this V6-powered Toyota rarely breaks down as he inspects a 70,000-mile (112,654 km) 4Runner that has been dropped off at his workshop for a thorough inspection. The four-liter powerplant produces 270 hp (274 hp) and 278 lb-ft (377 Nm) of torque, which is enough to tow the 2,180 kg (4,805 lb) SUV with passengers and cargo thanks to its 1,495 lb (678 kg) payload.

Car Wizard says the internals of this SUV are well put together and there is enough space to do any work required with ease. That means two things – less labor and cheaper repair costs.

After the vehicle is placed on the lift, the mechanic explains that the key parts found underneath the SUV are metal, which can increase the life expectancy of the vehicle as stronger materials offer better protection. A thorough look revealed absolutely no problems other than a few rusty spots.

Although he recommends the 2015 4Runner to anyone considering buying a used SUV right now, Long warns against checking any vehicle being considered for purchase by taking it to an authorized mechanic.

Car Wizard’s recommendation is incredibly important for one simple reason – you might pick a vehicle that appears to be A-OK but hides major problems that only a thorough inspection can uncover. Sellers can appear trustworthy, but it’s always a good idea not to take their word for it and bring in a third party who can corroborate what’s being said about the car.

In addition, buying into this level of reliability will not be cheap, so it is better to get used to the idea in advance.

Finally, don’t forget to check the mechanic’s list of 4x4s worth buying if the 2015 Toyota 4Runner isn’t an option.
