Democracy must be more than two wolves and a sheep voting on what’s for dinner. – James Bovard, civil rights activist

President Muhammadu Buhari has commissioned a wide range of assets acquired to strategically enhance police capabilities, particularly in crowd control and riot control operations.
Commissioning took place at Force Headquarters.
The equipment ordered includes a total of 127 operational vehicles such as Toyota Hilux Pick-up Vans, Zahab Classic Pick-Up Vans, Mikano Rich-6 Pick-Up Vans, Anti-Riot Water Cannons, Armored Personnel Carriers, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Jeeps, Toyota Coaster buses, Toyota Hiace ambulances, Mikano trucks and vehicles with security gates for people screening.
A large consignment of weapons, ammunition, riot control equipment such as tear gas, tasers, stun guns, pepper sprays, bulletproof vests, helmets and other personal protective equipment procured by the police was also commissioned by the President.
Protest control equipment, better yet election protest control or election preparation equipment. In fact, elections in these parts are a war. And dare I add that for a population of over 200 million people, this is equipment that we did not buy to fight crime or deal with the great insecurity that has been a hallmark but is necessary for elections; but what do i know I know it won’t be enough, Abobi will still die!
The Peoples Democratic Party PDP supporting Mr Buhari and the All Progressives Congress fighting Buhari, interesting times indeed and in case you don’t get it these are the main political parties or let me put it in context the APC is trying to free the electorate from the APC’s repression, the same party has accused itself of intending to form an interim government. They also want Nigerians to believe that the APC is Nigeria’s enemy. Technically (and this is one of her favorite terms) we vote APC and agree to APC.
After all, in the past fortnight two popular Nigerian artists (Seun Kuti and the PSquare duo) have been at war over political differences, supporters from both camps turned it into an ethnic war and more. The former does not believe in the Three Musketeers, the latter is obedience.
I know Abobi will die, Abobi will die because on the eve of these elections el-Rufai condemned the federal government and the same government condemned the Supreme Court, the people will condemn the banks, we’ve seen a few examples of protests in the states Edo/Delta, in Abeokuta, Ibadan and parts of Lagos. These elections aren’t going to fucking happen because we want them to be…
The elections will be damned if there is voter apathy and that may be the case because Abobi cannot get money to meet his daily needs, there is no gas for Abobi to go home, Abobi cannot make transfers , no power to charge his phone or check the news to keep up to date. Subscriber is excited!
Do you know that our election is a war! On election day you “MUST” stay at home, the only place you are allowed to go is a voting booth and if you are unlucky your train station is a drive from your neighborhood. Forget it! No one cares what if there’s a medical emergency, in Borno state the governor had to declare free Medicare due to tight redesigned bills with cashless policies, so picture the red-eyed checkpoints on D-Day and you have to get through an emergency; Abobi go die o!
Our elections are war, they’re war, that’s why they’re on Saturdays, people are locked in and at the mercy of touts, thugs and who knows. That is why the closure of schools was ordered, I mean universities, colleges, technical colleges and high schools. For an average of three weeks or more, children would be at home because we want to choose leaders.
Let me end with the words of the late legal luminary, sage and activist Gani Fawehinmi, who said at the 2003 presidential debate ahead of that year’s (sorry) war election: “I want a country where the people have a place, I want a Country where the masses who have faced much poverty, deprivation and hunger have a place, I want a country where millions of Nigerians are ignored by just a few people, I want a country where that barrier should be broken , I don’t want it We don’t want to be in a country where God created prosperity for all and yet those who govern us ignore, oppress, deceive and isolate the poor masses of our people. NO! This is not the country I dream of and that is why I am in the position today that I want to take their power away so that the masses of our people do not again suffer from lack of employment and food, from lack of housing, from lack of jobs, of lack of water, of lack of electricity and a country that I want to build free of corruption and hunger, free of all this dictatorship that we have encountered over the years. I want to found a country, I want to set up a government where there should be what we call best for all, not best for the few and worst for the majority.”
Two decades later, we’re still battling the same ills of society he sought to eradicate, and another war beckons in which Abobi will die again. Will this uprising bring out the beast in us or the best in us, will Abobi see a new Nigeria, or will a soldier go, a soldier come while a handful of Abobis pay the price.
Only time can tell!
