Employment lawyer and TikTok sensation Richard Grogan has passed away

Tragic news.

Ireland’s most famous employment lawyer, Richard Grogan, has sadly passed away. The news was confirmed by advocates against homelessness on Wednesday (November 23).

“In memory of our valued and most generous colleague, Richard Grogan, who selflessly gave his time, talent and genius to the homeless. Rest in peace Richard,” the group wrote.

Grogan attended Blackrock College before studying law at UCD, where he received an honors BCL. He qualified as a solicitor in 1979 and went on to set up his own practice in Dublin, Richard Grogan and & Associates.

In 2021, Grogan set up a TikTok account where he shared employment advice and answered viewers’ questions.

The popularity of the videos quickly exploded, garnering almost 300,000 followers on TikTok and over two million likes.

Viewers loved Grogan’s no-nonsense approach to labor law issues, capturing each of his videos with his signature, “It’s the law now and it’s a fact!”

In an interview with JOE last December, Grogan said he was “surprised” by the speed at which the TikTok account has grown.

“I think it’s probably the content that we give, you know, real information about employment law and injury issues,” Richard said.

“So it’s one of those things that I think people have a hard time getting information about. I think that’s why it’s come to this.”

The last video posted to his TikTok account was the announcement that he was awarded Lawyer of the Year at the Irish Law Awards 2022.

Grogan has appeared regularly on TV and radio over the past year, discussing labor law on RTÉ, Virgin Media and local stations across the country such as Cork 96FM and KFM.

Irish TikTok fans will surely miss Grogan appearing on the For You pages, answering questions and campaigning for workers’ rights.
