What a layman doesn’t know is that AI can traditionally be divided into AGI and ANI. Theorists and AI experts call this Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI). AGI is designed to be able to perform a variety of intellectual tasks, while ANI is designed to perform a single or a limited set of related tasks.

AGI is designed to be flexible and adaptable, able to handle new tasks and situations without human intervention. This is often referred to as “unsupervised learning,” meaning the AI ​​system can learn from data without being explicitly programmed to do so. The difference between AGI and ANI lies in their level of intelligence and their ability to generalize knowledge across different contexts. AGI is primarily driven by a variety of technical issues that warrant deeper discussion. One of these aspects is the maturity of AGI’s cognitive architecture – the development of a system that encompasses perception, attention, memory, language and reasoning. AGI is said to have the ability to perform any intellectual task a human being can do and to apply knowledge learned in a context to new, unfamiliar situations. AGI is what you would call an antagonist in pop culture movies and lore, where computers “take over” civilization and enslave humans. The fear stems from the very real possibility of an AGI system continuing to learn and making decisions that even its creators, ie us, could not possibly predict. This lack of “control” leads to the all-encompassing fear of AI. ANI, on the other hand, is designed to perform a specific task or set of tasks and is unable to generalize knowledge or skills to new situations outside of their programmed domain. Therefore, it remains extremely controllable, even if we don’t fully understand how it becomes so good at the task it was programmed for. Another is knowledge representation, which needs to be flexible, robust, and scalable. Different sources such as text, images and videos must be used. Another important aspect is explainability. AGI systems must be easy to explain to people in their decision-making processes. We cannot trust decisions until we understand how the conclusions were reached. AGI in its pure form will be designed to learn and reason like humans. This means that it should draw knowledge and input from experience, argue about complex concepts, and make decisions based on incomplete or uncertain information. In contrast, ANI is typically trained using machine learning algorithms such as supervised learning, unsupervised learning, or reinforcement learning. These algorithms are designed to optimize the AI ​​system’s performance on a specific task or set of tasks, but they are not necessarily capable of thinking or learning like humans. However, AGI is still largely in the realm of theoretical research and development, and it is not yet clear whether it will be possible to create a truly general AI system. In contrast, ANI is already widely used in a variety of industries and applications. including image recognition, natural language processing and predictive analytics.

The future of jobs

ANI products like ChatGPT have been around for a while but have recently taken the world by storm. In addition to technological performance, the right place and the right time are also important. Many experts believe that AI will significantly transform industries and create new opportunities for growth and innovation. In industries like healthcare, for example, AI can optimize transportation networks, design new materials, and even simplify manufacturing processes.

We can assume that AI may very well lead to the displacement of some jobs. Buzzfeed’s layoffs came at almost the same time during its new deal with OpenAI to use ChatGPT for its articles. Many other industry veterans are on the verge of internal upheaval. However, we should not forget that disruptive technologies also create new jobs and skills. AI can create demand for workers with expertise in machine learning, data science, and natural language processing. and project management. It can also create opportunities for workers to specialize in areas where human judgment and creativity remain crucial. AI’s impact on jobs and industries will likely be uneven, with some workers and industries experiencing more disruption than others. However, this is true of almost every disruptive technology introduced in legacy areas of the business. The printing press and telephone transistors have created far more possibilities in the long run. In the case of AI, workers in low-wage, low-skilled occupations may be more vulnerable to job loss than workers in high-paid, high-skilled occupations. But all is not lost. As AI continues to transform the labor market, workers may need to acquire new skills and knowledge to stay employable. This could require significant investment in education and training programs and new approaches to lifelong learning and skills development.
