The gaming community mourned after the well-known Mobile Legends Professional League Philippines (MPL PH) caster Rob Luna passed away on February 28.
Luna’s death was announced on Monday (March 1) by ULVL, where he was also executive producer. He was 37 years old.
“It is with great sadness that we announce that our executive director, our brother Rob Luna, passed away peacefully on February 28,” the announcement said.
The post recognized Luna’s achievements in both esports as a caster and in ULVL.
“Not only has he been ULVL’s production manager since 2021, but he is also a brother to management and a father to the workforce,” the Post continued. The company also extended its condolences and prayers to Luna’s friends and family.
Filipino caster Benedict “Prof B” Felix, Luna’s boyfriend since 2007, posted about Rob’s death on Facebook.
Prof. B. mentioned that it was Rob who brought “new flavor” to the MLBB meta because the former shoutcaster also wanted his career to grow on YouTube and other platforms.
“He has battled his illness and asked that his physical condition not be made public because he didn’t want the attention and Rob has fought bravely,” Prof. B.’s post reads in Filipino.
[“Nilaban niya yung sakit niya at request niya na wag ilabas sa public kasi ayaw niya nang pinag kakaguluhan siya at matapang si Rob na labanan ito,”]
Other members of the MPL PH community, such as M4 casters Dan “Leo” Cubangay, Caisam “Wolf” Nopueto and JC “Naisou” Rezabek, offered their condolences.
“In the short time we have known each other, you have taught me so much and shared so much of your passion, love and wisdom,” Naisou said in a Facebook post.
The TNC Pro ML team’s Facebook page also paid tribute to Luna. “Rob was also known for his kindness, generosity and compassion. He touched the lives of so many people with his joyful, warm and caring manner, and he will always be remembered for his unwavering commitment to making the world a better place.”
The story goes on
MPL Philippines also offered its condolences to Rob’s family and friends in their social media post on Wednesday (March 1).
“The MPL Philippines and the MLBB community deeply mourn the loss of Rob Luna, as his family has confirmed,” the post began.
“He was one of the casters of the MPL Philippines who made a remarkable contribution to what the league is today.”
