Former Trump legal adviser Jenna Ellis called Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and his husband Chasten Buttigieg “sexual perverts” for adopting two children.
Ellis responded to a tweet from someone who said they were “sad” that Mike Pence taunted Buttigieg with a gay joke for taking time off work to look after his sick child.
“This is Pete Buttigieg and his family, [heart emoji] if you support them!” wrote the Twitter user.
“This isn’t family,” Ellis replied. “It’s two sexual perverts and a child who deserves a real family: a mother and a father.”
“Children’s rights are important. Kids are not commodities,” she wrote, likely a reference to how the Buttigieges adopted their twins.
She got a pushback on Twitter.
Since you are so concerned that two people will have to raise a child that you do not have to take care of, how many children exactly have you adopted?

Twitter has already blocked her tweet in at least some countries that regulate hate speech online, like France.
Two weeks ago, over dinner at the Gridiron Club, Pence said Buttigieg went on “maternity leave” in 2021 when his two children were born.
“Pete is the only person in the history of mankind who has had a child and everyone else gets postpartum depression,” Pence joked.
Chasten Buttigieg responded with a picture of one of his preborn children held by Pete Buttigieg.
“An honest question for you Mike Pence after your attempted joke this weekend,” Chasten Buttigieg wrote. “If your grandchild was born prematurely and was on a ventilator at two months old – his tiny fingers wrapped around yours while the monitors beeped in the background – where would you be?”
Ellis was announced as a member of Trump’s legal team in 2020. Prior to that, she appeared in television appearances as a “constitutional attorney” although she had never taken on federal litigation and served as an assistant district attorney in Weld County, Colorado. from 2012 to 2013 general processing of traffic cases.
She was fired from that job after six months and went into private practice before joining the faculty at Colorado Christian University. She taught elementary school classes and self-published a book called The Legal Basis for a Moral Constitution: A Guide for Christians to Understand America’s Constitutional Crisis.
Ellis has supported conversion therapy in the past, claiming that the Respect for Marriage Act — which requires federal and state governments to respect same-sex and interracial marriages — would somehow end marriage equality.
She has argued that same-sex marriage will lead to pedophilia, which may have been a precursor to her calling the Buttigieges “sexual perverts” with no evidence other than their sexuality.
