Galaxy Z Flip & Flip 5G get Android 13 in the US

Users of Samsung’s original foldable Galaxy Z Flip in the US, there’s good news for you. The company has released the Android 13 update for your phone. Both 4G and 5G models will pick up the new Android version, complete with One UI 5.0 goodies.

Samsung is releasing an Android 13 update for the original Galaxy Z Flip

Samsung started rolling out Android 13 for the Galaxy Z Flip to international markets last week. It initially updated the 5G model but soon released the major Android update for the 4G version as well. And over the weekend, the company also expanded the rollout to the United States. According to SamMobile, the US devices of the Galaxy Z Flip 5G will receive the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update with firmware version F707USQU3GVK3. The one for the 4G model is F700USQU5HVK5.

These build numbers are for carrier-locked devices. The unlocked phones don’t seem to have made the jump to Android 13 yet. Even for the former, the update is reportedly only available on T-Mobile’s network. So Samsung is probably just getting started with the US rollout. A wider release should follow soon. If you’re rocking the first-gen Galaxy foldable clamshell, you can go to the Software Update menu in the Settings app to manually check for updates. You may also receive a notification once the OTA (over the air) release reaches your Galaxy Z Flip device.

This update will add tons of new features and changes to your phone. You’ll find something new almost everywhere, including Camera, Gallery, Samsung Keyboard, Samsung Internet, Bixby Routines, Calendar, Settings, Notifications, and other apps and services. Samsung has also given its One UI skin a small refresh with bolder app icons and smoother animations. There are also new customization options to add a more personal touch to your phone. Last but not least, One UI 5.0 improves the accessibility, privacy and security of Galaxy devices.

The original Clamshell Foldable also receives the November security patch

As well as all the goodies that come as standard with Google’s Android 13 and Samsung’s One UI 5.0, the latest update for the Galaxy Z Flip also brings a wealth of security fixes. The device receives the November security patch, which fixes more than 60 vulnerabilities. Most of these are Android OS issues, but the Korean company also patched some Galaxy-specific bugs with the November SMR (Security Maintenance Release). A handful of these patches address critical security vulnerabilities.
