How to delete embarrassing autofill entries in your Mac or iPhone browser

It’s nobody’s business what we look for on our personal devices. Can we agree that nobody should be able to see it?

Instead, sometimes you try to look something up and your previous searches are listed right away for all to see. Maybe someone saw what you bought them for their birthday, or maybe you had private medical information that you didn’t want anyone to see.

Anyway, there is a way to fix this, and here’s how to do it from your laptop using the most commonly used web browsers.

Chrome browser

First, update your Google Chrome browser

Before you see my tips below, be sure to follow these instructions to update your Google Chrome browser. About every six weeks (if not sooner) Google updates its browser, often updating it with security updates and other minor cosmetic changes on the side.

On a Mac

How to delete autofill in Google Chrome browser (Mac)

  • Open minded chrome
  • Click in the top right corner of your screen 3 vertical points (should be next to your profile picture)
  • click settings
  • Select in the left pane Autofill
  • A list of items that use AutoFill will appear (e.g. password managers, payment methods, etc.). Click on any that you don’t want autofilled and turn everything off

How to clear existing Autofill data in Chrome (Mac)

  • Open minded chrome
  • Click in the top right corner of your screen 3 vertical points (should be next to your profile picture)
  • Choose Storyand choose Story again from the menu that appears
  • Select in the pane on the left Clear browser data
  • Press the Advanced tab
  • in the Period of time menu, select all time (this step may depend on which version of Chrome you have)
  • Insure yourself Autofill form data is checked. Check any other options you want to delete
  • Choose delete data

How to delete autofill in Google Chrome browser (iPhone)

  • open that chrome apartment
  • Tap the 3 points at the bottom right of your screen and select settings
  • Choose payment methods
  • Switch off Save and fill out payment methods and press Did
  • Do the same for password manager and addresses and more if you want to disable autofill for these options as well

How to Clear Existing AutoFill Data in Chrome (iPhone)

  • open that chrome apartment
  • Tap the 3 points bottom right of your screen
  • Scroll down a bit and select Clear browser data
  • Adjust the time range at the top of the screen to say all time
  • Insure yourself Fill in data automatically is checked
  • Choose Clear browser data, then Clear browser data again to confirm

On a Mac

How to delete autofill in Safari (Mac)

  • Open minded safari
  • Click next to the Apple icon at the top of your screen safari
  • click settings
  • Choose Autofill
  • Deactivate Usernames and Passwordsand any options for which you do not want Safari to store autofill information

  • Open minded safari
  • Click next to the Apple icon at the top of your screen safari
  • Choose delete history
  • in the Clear menuSelect all history
  • Choose delete history

On an iPhone

  • Choose safari
  • Under the General tab, select Autofill
  • Switch the end the options for Use contact information and credit cards

  • Select in the lower right corner Clear

  • press the 3 lines at the top right of the screen
  • Choose settings

  • Under Forms and autofilluncheck the options for which you want to disable autofill

How to Clear Existing AutoFill Data in Firefox (Mac)

  • Open minded fire fox
  • press the 3 lines at the top right of the screen
  • Choose settings
  • Choose Privacy & Security
  • Under Logins and Passwordsdeactivate Ask to save logins and passwords for websites.
  • To delete saved logins and passwords, click Saved Logins
  • Removed any registrations that you do not want to save

On an iPhone

How to clear autofill in Firefox (iPhone)

  • open that Firefox app
  • Tap the 3 horizontal lines in the lower right corner
  • Choose settings
  • Under Privacy, beat data management
  • Choose Delete private data and press OK confirm

How to Clear Existing AutoFill Data in Firefox (iPhone)

  • open that Firefox app
  • Tap the 3 horizontal lines in the lower right corner
  • Choose Story
  • Tap the trash can icon bottom left
  • Choose All and press Did

Microsoft Edge

On a Mac

How to delete autofill in Microsoft Edge (Mac)

  • Open minded Microsoft Edge
  • press the 3 points at the top right of the screen
  • Choose settings
  • The menu should default to profiles. If not, select this option the menu on the left.
  • in the your profile Section, switch off Passwords, payment information, and any other options that you don’t want autofilled
