How to Dominate as Batman in MultiVersus

Batman is one of the funnest characters in MultiVersus, with a tool kit that starts out simple but can become quite complex. He’s a high-level character that can be wielded by beginners, but can be one of the greatest rewards in experienced hands. He regularly shows up at MultiVersus eSports events.

If you’re looking for a main character, Batman MultiVersus is definitely worth checking out. While his gear may seem simple at first, it can get complex. This Batman MultiVersus guide covers what you need to know about how to dominate as a character.

Batman’s MultiVersus Kit

Batman is a Bruiser fighter in MultiVersus, meaning he specializes in close-ranged combat. However, he is a vertical bruise. You should take advantage of verticality on the map. One of its great assets of the Batman MultiVersus kit is rushdown style play. He has high mobility, you can sweep across the map, stick to opponents and land heavy blows. Mastering the more difficult parts of his gear should help you stay very close to your opponents, which is key to getting the most out of Batman.

Batman’s major combat moves are punches and hits at close range. However, its range of gadgets opens things up. These give you longer range options, the smoke bomb opens up buffs as well as protection and tools to get closer to opponents. The game covers Batman’s MultiVersus moves in more detail, but these are the basic tools we’ll be using.

  • Batarang – Neutral ground and air
  • Bat Combo – Ground attack
  • Bat-Strike – Airside attack
  • Clear the Air – Attack Ground
  • Flying Uppercut – Up Air
  • Bat Slide – Down Ground
  • Bat Kick – Air Down
  • Bat Bomb – Neutral special
  • Bat-Grapple – Side Special
  • Rising Bat-Up Special Ground
  • Rapid Rising Bat – Air Up Special
  • Smoke Bomb – Special in the ground
  • Crushing Justice – Down Air Special

Batman MultiVersus Strategy

Strategy with Batman in MultiVersus boils down to using his moves correctly. There is a specific way of playing this character that matches his loadout, which will make it easy for you to win more matches with Batman. As mentioned, it’s basically a rushdown. But there’s more to it than just running at players and pressing buttons.

As Batman, you must approach players and launch high-damage attacks. It will be important to close this gap; Players will try to keep you away. Those who can keep their distance are the worst matchups for Batman in MultiVersus. Use moves like the bat-slide and tuck-in gadgets, then stick with them until you can land enough punches.

Crushing Justice offers decent mobility. It’s a dive kick with a generous hitbox. You can use this to get really close from above. The grappling hook is your next mobility move that’s pretty easy to use. If you’re on the ground, it can also get you high to launch an airborne attack. A good move here is to shield yourself with a smoke bomb here to prevent enemies from dodging it.

Another big boost for the Batman MultiVersus kit is avoidance. If you’re under too much pressure, those same approach mobility tools can help you dodge and reestablish your game from a more neutral spot. Batman’s verticality is a double-edged sword here though, it’s easier to get thrown into the air but use his diagonal upward dodges for more movement options.

Batman’s batarang and bombs

Batman doesn’t have any moves with armor, so he can often be interrupted. However, the batarang is your friend here. It may go out in front of you more slowly, which will help shield your approach. Make sure you check these out as often as possible. Without the Batarang you lose quite a bit of equipment.

You can also use batarangs for spacing. If you’re under heavy attack and actually need some space, throwing the batarang can buy you enough time to cool down.

The smoke bomb is special in the MultiVersus Batman kit, it actually applies haste. This will get you close much quicker. The smoke bomb should be thrown as often as possible to make this buff active as often as possible.

Get the kill as Batman in MultiVersus

The bomb is one of the better moves to set up a kill. Once you’ve dealt a decent amount of damage to enemy players, throw the bomb to get them to knockout range. Here you have melee combat to confirm the kill and advance. Throwing the bomb over the Batarang is one of the best ways to get them to hit, it’s hard to avoid. When you blend in with a smoke bomb, it becomes a great move. The Smoke Bomb also weakens enemies with Slow, so be prepared to get up close and use that to confirm the kill. It demands your gear, but if you time it right, it can be game-changing.

The main strategy for Batman MultiVersus players is to get close to the enemies, stay close and take the damage. These close range moves should make it easier for enemies to kill them without much effort. Once they reach those high percentages, you have a few opportunities for the killing blow.

The soaring bat special and bat kick spike attack are two great kill moves. Both hit hard enough to get a slight ringing when enemies have a high percentage. Ring outs are easier for Batman in the air, especially at the top of the screen.

Batman Multi Versus Combos

Combos are a great tool in MultiVersus. Batman also has some fun options for gamers. These aren’t combos like in games like Street Fighter, but combos even in a platformer fighter are something you have to use. The top MultiVersus and top Smash players all make heavy use of it. Even with patches regularly affecting combos, Batman has great options.

Youtuber Crazy Juice puts it nicely in his guide:

Batman MultiVersus has decent combo potential. You should practice these strings in game before attempting them live, as one slip can halt the entire run. With Batman’s moves hitting hard, these strings can quickly put you in a kill situation. These are some of the better combos for Batman right now.

  • Vertical combination – Down Air Attack + Up Attack + Up Air Attack + Up Special
  • Horizontal to vertical – Down Attack + Side Attack + Up Air Attack + Arial Up Special
  • Batarang Combo (kills at higher percentage) – Neutral Attack + Side Special + Air Up + Special
