Similar to Stories on Instagram, WhatsApp’s Status feature allows users to post fleeting updates about the latest events in their lives. These statuses will disappear within 24 hours. WhatsApp has recently allowed users to post voice notes as status updates, following the introduction of several new status features over the past month, including the ability to react and select private audiences. Here’s how you can use it.

How to post voice memos as status on WhatsApp

1. Navigate to the Status tab
2. Click the pencil icon on the page. Android users can find it in the bottom right corner, while iOS users can find it at the top of all status updates
3. On the next window, tap and hold the microphone icon in the lower right corner to start recording
4. You can stop the recording by sliding the microphone icon to the left
5. After recording, the recording can be previewed by pressing the play button
6. If you didn’t like the recording, click the Delete button to delete it. You can then start over
7. To post the voice memo as a status, click the “Send” button in the lower right corner

WhatsApp also offers some customizations that you can access before posting the status. Tapping the color palette icon in the top right corner toggles between multiple background color options. There is also a private audience selector in the bottom left that allows users to choose who can see their status.

Note that normal voice messages sent via chat are virtually unlimited, but voice notes on status cannot be longer than 30 seconds. If you need more time, you can post the first status and then record a new one.

WhatsApp voice memos seems to be widespread on Android and iOS. So if you don’t see them in your app, you should go to Play Store/App Store and update to the latest version.
