If like me you have trouble rolling out of bed in the morning, you might be interested in a unique concept created by YouTubers SECTOR 07 which uses a little Arduino hardware to create a more natural way of waking up. If you’re looking for a more relaxing way to end your snooze or wake up more naturally, this project offers an interesting solution in the form of a Headboard that simulates sunrises. Watch the video below to learn more about the project and how it can be used to wake yourself up more naturally.
“Imagine our ancestors waking up before artificial light came along and humanity was still nomadic because we haven’t evolved much since then. As the sun rose, the sky turned from black to dark blue, then continued to lighten over the course of an hour or two. This gave people a gradual stimulation to bring them from sleep to wakefulness, in stark contrast to the sudden, booming alarms common today. This headboard simulates the gradual sunrise and a built-in personal assistant brews coffee to give sleepers an extra incentive to get out of bed.”
How to wake up naturally
Simulates sunrises
“People depend on the sun to regulate our circadian rhythm or our sense of time. So we can guess the passage of time without ever looking at the clock. If you have ever explored a cave system or been without light for a few days, you may have experienced the time differently. It could almost seem like it’s all been one long day. Without the sun separating day and night, you would have no indication of the passage of time.
This problem manifests itself in many strange ways. The most common is sleep. Without the external queue of a sunset, our bodies don’t realize it’s night and we can have trouble falling asleep. In the same vein, once we fall asleep, it can be difficult to wake up because our bodies still have no clue that a new day has dawned. “
If you are interested in building your own artificial sunrise headboard so you can wake yourself up naturally to your natural circadian rhythm, head over to the Instructables website where the project creator has kindly provided full instructions and details on how to do this, how you can build your own.
