The Legend Of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a spectacular time. The world is bigger than ever, and with so many new things to see and do, it’s easy to get distracted and forget about saving the princess once again. Whether you’re building the next Metal Gear in the world of Hyrule or just trying to get your favorite armor set to the max stats, finding the right materials and rubies can be insanely difficult.
A while back we fixed a recently discovered duplicate bug that was extremely easy to fix. All you had to do was do a little inventory management and drop some items while sliding off a small surface. You could easily collect hundreds of diamonds and max out your rupees to the full amount.
When was the dupe glitch fixed?
Nintendo intervened and released a new patch on May 25, 2023, so players who left Tears of the Kingdom will receive a new automatic update. This effectively destroyed that exploit, along with the slightly more difficult arrow duplication bug that was being used. If you’ve recently quit gambling and given up the game, chances are very high that you can no longer use this admittedly dirty tactic. As Nintendo put it in its latest patch notes:
“Fixed several issues to improve the gaming experience.”

But if you’re anything like me, you haven’t even thought about playing anything else on your Switch lately. You’ve just played Tears of the Kingdom and set aside any semblance of a sleep schedule in search of items that will fill your wallet and make Link unstoppable in the face of adversity. And I’ll gladly admit I’ve fooled things like there’s no tomorrow. I have a busy life, so I can’t spend 10 weeks looking for diamonds to upgrade my favorite armor.
Unfortunately, if you are affected by the 1.1.2 update, the only way to revert to a previous software version is to completely reset your Nintendo Switch console. Honestly, for those who grind non-stop, this could be a godsend as the game doesn’t keep the latest update – assuming you have a physical cartridge.

As soon as you download the software again from the eShop, you will have the latest version. That means if you have a digital copy of TOTK and your dupe status is gone forever, you’re out of luck. Take a lesson from me: never complete a game when the glitches are this big. There are still a few glitches to help players, but these are mostly related to the physics engine, so will likely be around for quite a while.
Hopefully you got your hands on everything you needed while the sourcing went well. Who knows, as of this writing, there’s a good chance a new item duplication bug will be discovered, as players are still discovering little tricks to Breath of the Wild six years after its initial release. At least we can only hope, right?
