Preview: Skipper Rohit Sharma returns to the national team after a brief layoff when hosts India take on Australia in the second ODI in Vishakapatnam on Sunday.
The Men in Blue under Hardik Pandya clinched the first five-wicket ODI in Mumbai after going 108 runs unbeaten between KL Rahul (75*) and Ravindra Jadeja (45*), but much is expected from the Indian leader in the second game.
Ishan Kishan opened in the first ODI for India along with Shubman Gill in the absence of Rohit but failed to assert himself and was dismissed for just three. It remains to be seen if Kishan will try again after a poor performance with the racquet in the first ODI. Not only that, KL Rahul had retained the gates in Mumbai and claimed some catches for themselves.
There is also a bit of a weather concern as scattered thunderstorms are forecast for the afternoon so rain could spoil the game in Vizag.
It was like Australia too depended on one person too, in Travis Head (81) as they were bundled for 188. Steve Smith (22) and Josh Inglis had starts but couldn’t capitalize.
In terms of series wins, India were unbeaten at home this year and will look to win another series at Vizag hoping the rain gods stay away.
