THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rahul R. Pillai and Karthika KS never expected that sending out their wedding invitation to the Army HQ in Delhi and inviting their “heroes” to be part of the event would create such a buzz on social media.
As a token of the Army’s appreciation for their delightful wedding invitation, the couple were invited here to Pangode Military Station on Monday and congratulated by Brigadier Lalit Sharma, the station commander.
Brigadier Sharma interacted with the couple and presented them with a souvenir. Rahul, a banker from Coimbatore and Karthika, an IT professional at Technopark, are from Thiruvananthapuram. The couple wed on November 10 in the Kerala capital.
It was Rahul’s idea to send the wedding invitation to the Indian Army with a handwritten note to thank them for their tireless service.
“We have had great respect for the armed forces since we were children. My uncle was a former soldier and we’ve heard numerous stories of defense personnel casualties,” Rahul told TNIE.

The couple’s note read: “We (Rahul and Karthika) are getting married on November 10th. We are truly grateful for your love, determination and true patriotism towards our country. We owe you a deep debt of gratitude for keeping us safe….”.
“Thanks to you we sleep peacefully. Thank you for giving us happy days with our loved ones. Thanks to you we marry happily. We are very happy to invite you on our special day. We wish you your presence and blessings. Thank you for that You protect us.” read the note.
After receiving the heartfelt message, the Indian Army took it to their official social media addresses to extend wishes to the couple. The handwritten note on the left side of the card caught social media attention and immediately went viral.
The social media posts on the heartwarming invitation received an enormous number of likes, shares and lots of appreciation in the comments.
‘Best regards. #IndianArmy sincerely thanks Rahul & Karthika for the wedding invitation and wishes the couple a very happy and blissful married life. #TogetherForever,” the Army wrote in the caption, also tagging the groom.
