Indian Railways uses artificial intelligence and quantum computing technology for its rapid transformation

Indian Railways will use the latest technologies and innovations for its mega-transformation across the country. In this context, to keep up with the rest of the world, railways will now focus on using artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing technology for their modernization.

At a technical seminar for the Ministry of Railways Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw stressed the need to use the latest technologies in the development of the national transporter. He also emphasized exploring options for integrating data analytics to transform the railway network.

“The government has a clear goal for clear focus, intention, flexibility, open-mindedness and determination to do things that are Desh Ke Hit Mein and Railways Ke Hit Mein,” Vaishnaw said.

The seminar was organized by the Center for Railway Information System (CRIS) at the National Rail Museum in New Delhi. In addition to Vaishanw, the seminar was attended by senior officials from the Railway Board, zone and divisional railways, and industry partners.

For live train tracking, CRIS has collaborated with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) as part of the Real Time Train Information System (RTIS) project. This helps both the national transport company and the passenger to find the trains. The railway also uses Satcom and Satnav-based IoT devices on the trains.

The use of data analytics will prove beneficial to the various operations of Indian Railways and is of immense importance. The integration of data analytics will improve maintenance, increase the efficiency of train schedules and reduce operating costs. By analyzing data, railways can predict demand for trains and plan to allocate appropriate resources, reducing congestion and minimizing delays. It will also play an important role in improving passenger experiences through better services. Using the technology, railways will be able to identify the busiest routes and better plan intermodal transport to ensure efficient and seamless transport services.
