The terminals will be dispatched from Intelsat’s US headquarters in McLean, Virginia, and will be set up and activated by Help.NGO, an international non-governmental organization (NGO) specializing in emergency response and preparedness around the world.

“Our intervention includes fuel distribution to first responders and affected communities, internet connections at fire stations and community centers, and high-resolution mapping in the greater Ft Myers area,” Adam Marlatt, Operations Director, Help.NGO.

“In the event of a disaster, temporary communication is essential for first responders and search and rescue teams. This allows people to communicate with the regional Emergency Operations Center (EOC), allowing crews to order additional resources to the scene and meet other important needs,” said Mark Rasmussen, SVP of Mobility at Intelsat.

The terminals can also be used by residents to connect their devices to broadband and reach out to their loved ones, as well as insurance, banking and healthcare providers to begin the lengthy process of restoring their lives.

Intelsat’s FlexMove provides coverage to support global communications, operational efficiency and business continuity in the most remote and challenging environments. It is easy to use and can connect within minutes.

Intelsat is dedicated to connecting the disconnected around the world. It recently pledged to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations (UN) to provide assistance in the event of natural disasters. The company promises to provide up to $500,000 in airtime and the necessary equipment to respond to disasters.
