Izuma Networks, the new edge computing services provider, announced that it has completed the acquisition of the device management business of Pelion, a leading IoT services platform.
Izuma Networks, founded earlier this year by IoT industry veterans Travis McCollum and Ed Hemphill, will focus on the fast-growing edge computing services market. McCollum and Hemphill previously founded WigWag, an Austin-based startup that was acquired by Arm in 2019.
Izuma Networks completed an investment from SoftBank Group that will be used to hire new talent and enhance IoT services previously under Pelion Device Management with a focus on development and dev-ops. Funding will also go toward streamlining and integrating Edge and IoT services under one roof.
In view of constant changes in the offers of the major providers, such as e.g. B. the recently announced shutdown of Google’s IoT Core Services product, the Izuma Networks team is focused on delivering a pure IoT and edge service with long-term support that is independent of cloud providers. The team is heavily focused on making changes to its cloud and licensing offerings that provide security for large enterprise customers building solutions with decades and longer product lifetimeskey
said Ed Hemphill, co-founder and CEO of Izuma
The acquisition of Pelion Device Management will allow us to provide our customers with long-term, reliable technology through changes to our cloud and licensing offerings. With the emergence of more complex applications such as AI models running on more powerful edge computing and microcontroller platforms, and the amount of data that 5G can transmit with more data-intensive sensor and image components, it is fundamental to push IoT applications towards the edge to relocate. Softbank’s funding will allow the company to focus on streamlining and integrating our Edge and IoT offerings, as well as delivering new offerings that help our customers meet rapidly changing regulatory and security requirements around the world.
