Keanu Reeves reacts to being declared friend of the internet

Keanu Reeves, often dubbed the internet’s ultimate “internet friend,” has shared his appreciation for his obsession with the internet.

On March 15, the 58-year-old actor attended the New York premiere of John Wick: Chapter 4. While speaking to People on the red carpet, Reeves was asked how he felt about the love he’s receiving online.

“I really appreciate the goodwill,” said Reeves, who has been in a relationship with longtime friend and artist Alexandra Grant since 2019.

Since his rise to fame in the late ’90s – most notably as Neo in the hit Matrix film franchise – the Canadian-born actor has been recognized for his random acts of kindness, his tendency to crash fan weddings, and the time which he gave away, his stunt crew praises Rolex watches and his batch of viral memes.

During a recent interview with ET Canada, Reeves was once again asked about his Internet Friend title and how he’s stayed humble despite his fame. “Humility. I don’t know. I mean, I’m just an actor, I’m just a guy. I’m just trying to do my best,” he replied. “Hopefully people like what I’m doing, you know?”

His Matrix co-star Laurence Fishburne also had a few kind words to say about his friend and longtime acting partner. “He’s friendlier, yes. He’s a lot friendlier than people say he is,” Fishburne told the outlet. “He is a very gentle, highly intelligent man. Really thoughtful and gifted and incredibly patient. Yes, he has a lot of grace, Keanu.”

Earlier this month, the speed star even received a proposal from an avid fan at the SXSW film festival premiere of John Wick: Chapter 4, which hits theaters on Friday March 24. When Reeves mentioned at the screening that he kept his character’s watch and wedding ring from the film series, one viewer cried out, “I’m going to marry you!” by Variety.

“Yes, be careful what you wish for,” he replied jokingly.

Reeves went viral last year when a fan shared the actor’s heartwarming interaction with a young child at an airport. Last July, the Always Be My Maybe star was spotted on a flight from London to New York when he was approached by a boy who asked the actor a “series of rapid-fire questions”.

The story goes on

“Keanu Reeves was on my flight from London to NYC today,” TV producer Andrew Kimmel tweeted, describing the interaction in a viral Twitter thread. “A young boy asked for an autograph by the luggage and then began firing off a series of rapid-fire questions. Keanu happily answered each and every one…

“Child: Why were you in London? KR: Make a documentary. Kid: I saw online that you were at the Grand Prix (pronouncing the x) KR: Yes, at the Grand Prix (with a French accent without correcting it). F1! racing cars! Child: do you drive? KR: Not F1, but I like to ride a motorbike.”

When the little boy “ran out of questions,” Reeves began lovingly “grilling” him, asking him questions like, “Why were you in Europe?”, “What galleries did you go to in Paris?” and “What was your favorite?”

Kimmel added: “The man could not have been nicer, especially after an international flight. Thought I’d share this because the guy is a class and little moments like this can make such a big difference in people’s lives. We need more Keanus!”
