ESQ Nigerian Legal has nominated Orbs and Sceptres, JK Gadzama, among others, for this year’s award, which recognizes the role of attorneys, corporate legal departments and professionals in the legal profession.
The awards, hosted annually by ESQ Legal, have over the years recognized talented lawyers and outstanding law firms that are shaping the landscape of the legal profession in Nigeria.

This year’s awards recognize law firms including JK Gadzama, whose founding partner is Chief Joe Kyari Gadzama, a senior attorney, Orbs and Sceptres, whose principal partner is Kaduna-based attorney Abdulaziz Ibrahim, and those of Udo Udoma & Belo Osaige.
Speaking to journalists in Lagos, Lere Fashola, organizer of the awards, explained that this year’s awards received nominations from well over 60 law firms and corporate in-house legal departments, from which the shortlists were compiled.
The next step will be the review and selection of the winners by a jury chaired by Cecilia Akintomide, former Vice President of the African Development Bank, which includes heads of African practice groups from international law firms in the UK, South Africa, the US, Canada and Europe. Among the judges are Kamal Shah, Head of India and Africa at Stephenson Harwood LLP, Kem Ihenacho, Head of Africa Practice Group at Latham and Watkins LLP.
