A 32-year-old Navi Mumbai lawyer who sought medical treatment at a yoga facility in Haridwar lost Rs 32,300 trying to book a service, police said on Sunday. Police have registered proceedings against three unidentified people under different sections of the Indian Penal Code for fraud and criminal intimidation and under the provisions of the Information Technology Act. A police officer said the woman wanted to seek medical treatment in Haridwar and found a contact number when searching online.
“She made a payment of Rs 10,000 and later transferred Rs 22,300 after receiving a call that her booking was not confirmed,” he said. When she received another call asking for Rs 45,800 to be paid for insurance, she realized something was fishy and demanded a refund, he said. “Having received no response to the refund request, she filed a complaint with the police,” the officer said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
