13-year-old professional wrestler Levi Shapiro knows the importance of building a brand when it comes to making a name for yourself in the wrestling world.
The current APW Worldwide Internet Champion was a guest on Fightful.com’s Wrestling Perspective Podcast with Lars Frederiksen and Dennis Farrell this week. Shapiro spoke about his desire to be in the business he loves and says he knows he has work to do. Dennis Farrell asked Shapiro if the current social media landscape is having an impact on him in building his name and brand.
“I think it’s affecting me more than ever right now. Because in the beginning I got my feet wet and figured out what I wanted to do before I dived into the old school stuff. Even when I started, social media was there, but it still wasn’t as widespread as it is today, with content creation or something. You were advanced when you had Periscope, the early version of live video on Twitter. If you really got it down (social media) you were already light years ahead of anyone back then.” said Levi.
Levi mentioned Colt Cabana as someone with a large online following when Shapiro was just getting into the business in 2009.
“There are a few people who are really into it. Colt Cabana had an online presence. I was so in love with wrestling that I only watched wrestling in high school and when I was training I was trying to figure out the art of pro wrestling right? That was the point where the great clash began. I would say it started to develop into this evolution and it started to take the shape that it was compared to before, right? Because the old business isn’t dead, it’s low compared to what it was. It was the thing that ruled the world. They made money everywhere because of these specific rules in this specific business. I’d say it’s my biggest fork in the road now. For the last few years I’ve sat there and said, “I have to brand Levi Shapiro.” I have to explain what is timeless to me and how I can raise these old wrestlers like The Destroyer, Terry Funk, Dory Funk, Dory Funk. sr? Said Shapiro.
