According to 1010Wins radio in New York, an unnamed 27-year-old man who bought 300 iPhones at Apple Fifth Avenue Monday morning was robbed shortly after leaving the store.
He was carrying 300 iPhone 13s in three bags and was walking to his car at 1:45 a.m. when another car pulled up next to him. Two men jumped out and demanded the bags be handed over. The victim refused to give up 300 iPhones, fought back and was eventually punched in the face before thieves got away with one of the bags.
The bag contained 125 iPhones valued at $95,000. Police said the man in question often made large “iPhone” purchases at the Fifth Avenue store to resell through his small business. It’s not clear why he made the 1:00 am purchase, nor if he was targeted based on previous buying habits.
Apple’s Fifth Avenue store is open 24 hours a day, allowing for early morning shopping. Apple also had a Black Friday sale around the time, which the thieves may have known about.
The NYPD is investigating the robbery and the victim was not seriously injured. A description of the suspects and their vehicles has not yet been released.
