March Madness 2023 streaming, apps and more
Live activity in the March Madness app allows you to see live match scores right on your iPhone’s lock screen or in the iPhone 14 Pro’s dynamic island. To start a live activity, you must manually open the March Madness app and tap on a game. These new features were announced in a press release today.
NCAA March Madness Live welcomes users with an updated home screen designed for better discoverability of content from live streams, articles and more, creating a seamless experience for users new and old. For the first time, users can also take advantage of Apple’s Live Activity feature in iOS 16.1+ which, when enabled, offers interactive notifications and faster access to live games right from the lock screen on their mobile devices.
Additionally, this year the March Madness app supports streaming live game audio via CarPlay. That means you can start audio playback for a game simply by using the March Madness app via the CarPlay interface.
Nearly 98% of new cars in the US come with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For the first time, NCAA March Madness Live will have robust product integration with these services, with live game audio backed by national Westwood One feeds to keep fans on the go informed.
On the web, the NCAA March Madness website is adding the ability to stream up to four games simultaneously. You can only stream two games at a time on Apple TV and other connected TVs. However, there will be picture-in-picture support for iPhone, iPad and the web.
According to the NCAA, all games will be streamed in 1080p quality with 5.1 surround sound. According to Engadget, some improvements have been made to the video player to “improve performance on a variety of devices, including older ones”.
Finally, the NCAA has clarified a few things regarding the actual standing of March Madness games this year. First, you can stream any game that airs on CBS itself for free through Paramount+. In fact, you don’t even have to create an account to watch these games.
On the other hand, you need a Paramount+ subscription to watch games that air on TBS, TNT, and truTV.
You can download the NCAA March Madness Live app from the App Store today. The first games start on March 14th.
