MARLBORO, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) – It might not have the most creative name, but the Design-a-Mall Club at the New England Innovation Academy has some creative ideas.
Students at the private middle and high school club have partnered with the Solomon Pond Mall to consider renovations that would help the dying mall attract new customers.
One of the ideas that came to the group was an outdoor adventure facility.
“There would be popular natural events, so a climbing wall, a high ropes course and an artificial fish pond,” Junior Aaron Zhang told WBZ NewsRadio on Tuesday.
A virtual reality arcade has also been launched.
“In Japan, there’s a really popular type of mall right now that brings VR into a space where people can try different video games,” Zhang said. “Very easy to implement, all you need is an open space and some headsets.”
Before developing ideas, the students conducted interviews with customers, store owners and mall management to see what stakeholders wanted.
“First of all, identify the needs of the user, because that’s what matters in the end,” Zhang said.
The management of the mall plans to present the group’s ideas to the board.
