Marvel’s Avengers is getting its final patch today

Almost three years after the release, support for Marvel’s Avengers is ending. Today Crystal Dynamics released Patch 2.8 for Marvel’s Avengers, adding some final features and bug fixes to the game before it’s delisting later this year.

Crystal Dynamics revealed the patch via a blog post thanking players for their support. The patch focuses on introducing some of the game’s latest features and includes a variety of new bug fixes.

Patch 2.8 makes many of the game’s cosmetic elements more accessible, removing the delivery and hero challenge card systems entirely from the game and putting their rewards in the marketplace instead. The update also automatically converts players’ credit balances into in-game resources, turning Hero’s Catalysts and Fragment Extractors into a permanent 1.5x multiplier on earned fragments and XP.

Additionally, as a thank you, players who earn at least one trophy before April 1st will receive the Iron Man Variable Threat Response suit.

The patch notes, which can be read in full on the Crystal Dynamics website, also include a few bug fixes that address everything from combat to specific animations.

Official support for Marvel’s Avengers is scheduled to end on September 30th, at which point the game will be delisted. We gave Marvel’s Avengers a 6 in our review, praising the campaign but criticizing the loot-based endgame and limited mission variety at launch. Since then, Crystal Dynamics has added some new characters and features, but a former creative director issued an apology for the game last month.

The Marketplace has been unlocked! What does that mean? Almost all MCU and non-MCU inspired outfits, emotes, eliminations, and nametags are now automatically available on your hero card. However, items earned through the campaign or purchased through the cosmetic vendor must be earned/purchased as they always were. Both the shipping system and the hero challenge cards have been completely removed from the game. Items that could previously be earned through Deliveries and Hero Challenge Cards are included in the hundreds of Marketplace items that are automatically granted when you update to v2.8. You do not need to be connected to the internet to access all unlocked Marketplace content after updating to v2.8. As a thank you to players who have joined us on our journey, we are granting a special Founder’s Gift – Iron Man’s Variable Threat Response Battle Suit”. This outfit is automatically granted to any player who earns at least one trophy/achievement before April 1st. All existing credit balances have been converted to in-game resources. Custom Hero Catalysts and Fragment Extractors have been completely removed from the game. In their place, there is now a permanent 1.5x multiplier on fragments earned and XP gained. There will be a small hotfix, update 2.8.1, going live on April 4th to address a known issue
