The grandfather of a pregnant lawyer pushed to her death by Arthur’s Seat didn’t tell his family he had terminal cancer because he didn’t want to “distance attention” from her murder case – and died before her killer was arrested.
Relatives called Abdul Latif, 70, their “senior investigator” as they fought to get justice for Fawziyah Javed, 31, who was murdered by Kashif Anwar, 29.
They said Latif remained silent about his terminal diagnosis until 48 hours before his death on November 1 because he didn’t want to divert “attention” from the case.
Fawziyah’s uncle, Shahid Farouk, 53, said Latif was present when his granddaughter’s body was identified on her birthday: September 4, 2021.
And he said it was “devastating” that he was unable to get the “degree” he had been seeking when Anwar was sentenced to 20 years in prison for Javed’s murder on Thursday.
He said: “He was like our lead investigator. He was with us all the way. But unfortunately he died of cancer. And the worst part was that he kept it inside.

“The doctors told him, ‘You have to tell your family, you don’t have long to live.’ They gave him a year but unfortunately he left within a few months.
“When we identified Fawziyah… we should have celebrated her birthday and not gone to a morgue to identify her body, and Fawziyah’s grandfather went with us.
“The reason he didn’t want to tell anyone was because he knew the family was going through a lot of heartache with Fawziyah’s ongoing case, so he didn’t want to bother us and didn’t want to draw our attention to himself.
“It wasn’t 48 hours ago [before he died]when his condition got very bad, he actually told us that.
“It’s a huge blow for us to lose Fawziyah’s grandfather, not having closed the case before he died.”
Javed was 17 weeks pregnant when she was murdered by her abusive husband Anwar.

He lured her on a trip to Scotland before shoving her off Arthur’s Seat, the 50ft natural monument in Edinburgh, on September 2, 2021.
The story goes on
But she used her last breath to tell police her husband was responsible for her injuries, leading to his successful conviction in Edinburgh’s High Court.
Paying tribute to the “God-gifted” lawyer, Farouk said Anwar would have pulled off the “perfect murder” had she not intervened.
The businessman said: “He was a jealous, controlling freak. He showed absolutely no remorse for what he had done and took not only her life but also that of her child.
“I would have said this guy is a psychopath. It’s incredible. who would do that An educated woman, she bought him things and it just wasn’t enough for him.
“God gave her strength to be alive when the police got there.

“But it would have been almost the perfect murder he would have gotten away with if she hadn’t been alive [to tell the officers]I don’t think there would be much evidence.
“Who not only kills his wife but also his own child? He showed no remorse and was a coward.
“He broke our trust. I remember him telling us “I’ll take care of her”. And they bought their house in a body bag. He completely ruined our lives.”
He continued, “Fawziyah was God gifted. She was educated and she was the best in my family. She was an only child. She attended Gateways Private School in Leeds. She was just very humble.
“Fawziyah was a lawyer by profession. She was a kindhearted, honest girl. I never yelled at Fawziyah. I raised her as my own niece. She was just flawless.
“She was just a level headed girl who didn’t show off who wanted to be loved but unfortunately met the wrong guy.”
