Namita Thapar recalls being physically shamed, internet praises her for speaking out

Namita Thapar, one of India’s leading businesswomen and Executive Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals, is once again topping the web headlines and trend charts. After the creators of the show Shark tank India 2released a promotional video of the upcoming episode, it exploded across social media after Namita was seen making some shocking revelations about her life.

Namita Thapar revealed how people used to shame her and dubbed her ‘Moti’.

In the video we can see an entrepreneur presenting her clothing brand that offers beautiful outfits and dresses especially for plus size people. After listening to her pitch, Namita Thapar recalled the time people physically shamed her and called her “Moti”.

The revelation shocked not only the candidate but also the other judges. Further, in her statement, Namita suggested Thapar, asking the entrepreneur to uncover the reason for making clothes for all sizes instead of only focusing on the plus sizes. She said:

“Sach much India my jo ye body shaming jise kehte hain, jo yeh ‘moti, moti’ bulate hain, uski target main bhi ban chuki hoon. Aapne aesa kyun nahi socha ki mein only plus size ke liye fashion banati hoon, na ki sab sizes ke liye.”

When asked by Namita Thapar, the entrepreneur explained that she doesn’t want to make plus-size people feel indifferent to others in any way. The pitcher went on to say that they don’t want to kick out plus-size people like other brands do by creating separate sizing charts or collections designed specifically for them. The clothing brand entrepreneur said:

“The biggest problem in the plus-size industry is that plus-size people are treated like outcasts. We want them to feel included by not having a separate size chart or collection for them. They are part of our entire range of collections.”

Once the promo from Shark tank India 2made its way to the internet, Namita Thapar received a lot of praise from people for sharing her story with the world. Most people thanked the businesswoman for shedding much needed light on the issue of body shaming in India, which people mostly overlook.

When Namita Thapar spoke about body shaming on Chetan Bhagat’s talk show

This isn’t the first time Namita Thapar has spoken openly about being overweight, as she previously spoke about it on top author Chetan Bhagat’s talk show back in 2021. At the time, she explained to the writer how she was bullied for her looks and weight during her teenage years. she had said:

“I wasn’t like that when I was a kid. I was very overweight, I had a lot of facial hair and acne, I was very physically ashamed as a teenager… and I used to feel very ugly.”
