TAIPEI, Feb. 23, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — NEXCOM, a leading network equipment provider, and Connect 5G, a boutique telecom services company accelerating cellular network deployment, have partnered to enable a solution that’s based NEXCOM Whiteboxes – DTA 1376 & NSA 6310 and Opus Magma Multi-architecture Container-Access-Gateway (AGW) stack ready to be deployed and act as EPC in localized cellular networks. Finely tuned and validated by Connect 5G, these boxes offer a much more affordable and accessible mobile network edge solution to regional operators aiming to cover less populated communities in rural areas. NEXCOM supported the cause of the Magma Project and along with other key members joined the Magma Core Foundation Connect 5G to overcome the obstacles of building an expensive wireless network infrastructure by empowering EPC through open-source management software on Arm-based white boxes .
NEXCOM and Connect 5G have partnered to enable a solution built on Arm-based white boxes – DTA 1376 and NSA 6310 – and Opus Magma multi-architecture container access gateway (AGW) stack, ready to to be deployed and act as an EPC in localized cellular networks. These boxes offer a much more affordable and accessible mobile network edge solution to regional operators aiming to cover less populated communities in rural areas.
The collaboration started early last year when NEXCOM was looking for a good software partner in Arm’s ecosystem to further transform these Arm SystemReady appliances into ready-to-use solutions in the 5G IT landscape. Connect 5G was looking for more reliable platform partners to expand its solution portfolio as well. Connect 5G team professionals integrate NEXCOM Arm-based standard uCPEs with the latest Opus Magma AGW v1.8 stack, connect to cloud-based orchestrator, test and field test LTE and 5G SA Proof that the solution can handle the task as an EPC. With Opus Magma AGW enabled, DTA 1376 and NSA 6310 enable CommSPs and WISPs to create a private LTE/5G network or extend wireless coverage on a local area network with less effort and expense.
“We are pleased that our Arm-based product portfolio meets the needs of service providers of all sizes.” Says Alexander Su, General Manager of NEXCOM USA. “With this joint Arm-based solution, smaller WISPs can easily attract new projects to build lower-cost community networks. In addition, we gain another trusted partner – Connect 5G, and we look forward to further cooperation opportunities in the future.”
“This certification by Connect 5G ensures these devices meet the highest standards of performance, reliability and interoperability,” said Patrik Melander, Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO of Connect 5G, “By leveraging the strengths of Opus Magma built on the ARM architecture, regional operators can offer high-quality and affordable fixed wireless services to their communities. Our partnership with NEXCOM brings about a range of affordable and powerful edge devices to meet the needs of the WISP community and private LTE and 5G organizations.”
Connect 5G is leading the launch and porting of the Magma project to the ARM architecture under its solution called Opus Magma. Magma Core and Edge Computing are important to rural America because of their potential to provide solutions to the challenges rural communities face in accessing reliable and affordable mobile services. In many rural areas, there is limited infrastructure for traditional cellular networks, making it difficult and costly to provide quality coverage. With edge computing and distributed EPC, network functions are performed closer to the end user, reducing dependency on central infrastructure and improving network performance.
“The combination of Opus Magma (Magma Core EPC) and NEXCOM’s ARM architecture provides several benefits, including increased performance, power efficiency and scalability,” said Jordan Vrtanoski, Chief Architect of Connect 5G. “With the ability to run multiple network functions in containers at the network edge, the Magma Core-on-ARM architecture offers greater flexibility and improved network functionality. Additionally, this advanced edge computing enables the rapid deployment of 5G networks, bringing high-speed connectivity and low-latency to rural communities.”
