The MIT AI Policy Forum (AIPF) is a global initiative at MIT Schwarzman College of Computing that was launched in 2018. Blackstone Group Chairman Stephen A. Schwarzman donated $350 million of the $1.1 billion pledged to the school is the “single largest investment in computing and AI by an American academic institution.” (1)

The leadership of the AIPF is obliged to be able to make a tactical impact. They set the strategic tone that certain core questions surrounding AI are understandable enough to trade now – and we couldn’t agree more.
Simply put, it is time for a “Decide and Act” phase after the “Observe, Orient” collective analysis phase that has been applied to specific aspects of mission-critical social and ethical issues such as privacy, fairness, bias, transparency, etc. Accountability. To reiterate the AIPF, “Now is the time to take the next step.”
