Optico Fiber announces the launch of multi-gigabit broadband Internet services over its new 10G XGS broadband network. XGS, also known as XGS-PON, is a next-generation fiber optic technology that supports symmetrical broadband speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second (10G). Multi-gigabit service is now available throughout the metropolitan area of San Juan.
Optico Fiber is the first company to deploy XGS-PON technology in Puerto Rico. The upgrade was performed across the network without disrupting the current network, with no impact on existing gigabit broadband services. “Seamless multi-gigabit broadband Internet is a game changer,” said Carlo Marazzi, President of Optico Fiber. “Multi-gigabit broadband isn’t just about faster speeds. It’s about the multi-gigabit experience of a modern, hyper-connected household, where the internet is embedded in almost every part of their daily lives.”
According to the 2022 Connectivity and Mobile Trends Survey, US households have an average of 22 connected devices. 45% of households had at least one family member working from home part-time, and 50% of consumers used telemedicine. Additionally, virtual healthcare and fitness, distance learning, cloud computing, and entertainment such as gaming and 4K streaming are just some of the technologies that are transforming our digital lives and requiring higher-bandwidth broadband.

Optico Fiber has announced two new service plans – 2.5 Gigabit and 4.0 Gigabit. Both plans offer multi-gigabit speeds with no throttling or data caps. The 2.5 Gigabit service offers symmetrical speeds of up to 2.5 Gbps. The 4.0 Gigabit service offers symmetrical speeds of up to 4.0 Gbps.
