PS Vita Release: Dead Space 1.3 (unofficial port of Dead Space Mobile, by Gl33ntwine)

Developer Gl33ntwine has released an update for Dead Space Vita, a port of Dead Space Mobile. Version 1.3 improves sound and controls and brings other fixes.

What is Dead Space for PS Vita?

Dead Space (mobile) is an Android/iOS spin-off of the Dead Space franchise. While this isn’t the most important “dead space” you remember from the PS3/XBOX 360 era, don’t let the “mobile” aspect of the game fool you, it’s really good. Wikipedia says:

after release, Empty room received very positive reviews.[…] Reviews highlighted the extent to which the title emulated the look and feel of the Dead Space series within the confines of a touchscreen mobile device, while also praising the fact that the game is a new story, not just a port of the original Dead space game .

From the port’s readme:

Dead Space is a 2011 survival horror mobile game for iOS and Android devices. A spin-off of the Dead Space series, the game takes place after the events of the original Dead Space and before the events of Dead Space 2, and shows how the Necromorph outbreak began and spread throughout the Titan Sprawl.

This homebrew is a loader of the Xperia Play version of Dead Space, based on TheFloW’s Android SO Loader. The loader provides a bespoke, minimalist Android-like environment to run the official ARMv6 executable game on the PS Vita.

Download and install Dead Space for PS Vita

We recommend you download and install the VitaDB Downloader and then just install any homebrew. You can also get Dead Space PS Vita right here.

Setup (from the readme)

To install the game properly, you need to follow these steps carefully:

  • Install or update kubridge and FdFix by copying kubridge.skprx and fd_fix.skprx into your taiHEN plugins folder (usually ur0:tai) and adding two entries to your config.txt under *KERNEL:

⚠️ Do not install fd_fix.skprx if you use the rePatch plugin!

⚠️ Even if you had kubridge.skprx If you already have it installed, you most likely still need to update it, as a new version of the plugin was released at the same time as this port.

  • make sure you have libshacccg.suprx in which ur0:/data/ folders on your console. If you don’t, use ShaRKBR33D to get it quickly and easily.

  • Legally get your copy of Dead Space Mobile for Xperia Play in the form of a .apk File. The version for regular Android devices, also known as the latest/Google Play version, will not work! Make sure your game is up v1.1.33 (This is the last one supported by Xperia Play and made available through the EA Store in 2012).

ℹ️ Check if your build is exactly right by using sha1sum (also available as an online tool). sha1sum for lib/armeabi/ must be 0ed42b611415015807f759ec9b5457857143ce39

  • open that .apk with any zip explorer (e.g. 7-Zip) and extract all folders from the .apk in ux0:data/deadspace on your vita. Example of a correct resulting path: ux0:data/deadspace/lib/armeabi/

  • If your .apk was less than 100 MB, you also need assets (“cache”). You need to run the game at least once on your Xperia for it to download the necessary files and you can then find them at /sdcard/ea/deadspace/published. copy that published folder to ux0:data/deadspace/assets/ on your vita. Example of a correct resulting path: ux0:data/deadspace/assets/published/data/

  • To install DeadSpace.vpk (from publications).
