MADISON, WI–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Aug. September 2022–
RealTerm Energy, a North American leader in intelligent lighting, smart city and smart building solutions for schools and communities, announced that it has partnered with four Wisconsin school districts for $199,644 to provide artificial intelligence technologies to support of automating HVAC operations. This energy innovation grant from the Office of Energy Innovation of the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSC) will provide four Wisconsin school districts a unique opportunity to reduce energy costs, reduce their carbon footprint and provide healthier classrooms for their residents.
For K-12 public school districts, energy bills are the second largest expense after teachers’ salaries, totaling about $8 billion annually. A Government Accountability Office (GAO) report found that 36,000 schools nationwide are in need of HVAC improvements, with over 50% of the schools visited having HVAC-related issues. With these much-needed energy efficiency upgrades, schools can lower their energy bills and reduce their carbon footprint while improving indoor air quality.
“With this unique opportunity, we can provide these school districts with a much deeper insight by helping their buildings operate smarter, greener and more efficiently,” said Dave Beatty, senior director of the Campus Division at RealTerm Energy.
Wisconsin’s four school districts, including Mauston, La Crosse, Sparta and Shorewood, are implementing smart building technology to improve energy efficiency. RealTerm Energy will provide BrainBox AI technology that overlays a building’s current building management system (BMS) to optimize energy savings and improve comfort. Brainbox AI can preemptively improve HVAC equipment through the use of artificial intelligence, deep learning, and cloud computing.
“We are excited for the opportunity to support Wisconsin’s school districts through this energy grant program and to partner with RealTerm Energy on the BrainBox solution,” said Scott Pierce, co-founder and vice president of Fusebox.
“By reducing our energy consumption [the School Districts Energy Efficiency and Demand Response Collaboration Project] not only benefits our planet, but also reduces utility spending so we can focus that money on providing resources for our students’ education,” said Sue Goyette, business manager for the Mauston School District.
