Report on Mobile Payment Methods in Europe 2022: Digital Wallets

Dublin, Dec 07, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Added the Europe Mobile Payment Methods 2022 report ResearchAndMarkets.com Offer.

Digital wallets dominated the payment landscape in several countries in Europe

Many countries across Europe are seeing continued growth in the use of digital wallets and their adoption and presence are expected to gain momentum.

In Germany, PayPal was the preferred and most used payment method for B2C e-commerce purchases. Furthermore, among the top payment methods offered by online stores in Germany, most online retailers in 2021 offer PayPal, followed by invoice and credit cards, according to the report.

In contrast, Apple Pay and Google Pay were offered by a tiny percentage of online retailers in Germany. Digital wallets like PayPal were a regularly used online payment method by almost two-thirds of German consumers in 2021, with Google and Apple Pay being the least used forms of digital wallet.

In terms of age groups, PayPal was again the most used payment method across different age groups, while over a certain percentage of consumers between the ages of 16 and 69, Klarna was also commonly used for their online payments, as stated in the publication.

In 2021, MobilePay outperformed PayPal and Apple Pay in Denmark in both usage and preference when shopping online. Mobile wallets like PayPal are also steadily gaining traction in some of the emerging European markets like the Czech Republic.

Although e-wallet is used by a small percentage of internet users as a payment method for B2C e-commerce, as of 2021 it was one of the most popular payment methods for online purchases in the country. Almost half of online shoppers in Portugal were also in favor of using PayPal when shopping online, while more than half of online businesses in Bulgaria experienced a positive impact following the launch of digital and mobile wallets in 2021.

Despite the growing interest in mobile payments across Europe, there are still some challenges to be solved

Although many countries in Europe are encouraging the use of mobile payments, there are some potential challenges facing mobile payment users, the report shows. More than a third of adults using mobile payments in France in 2021 were concerned about the security issues related to using the payment method. Aside from that, mobile payment users also had concerns about the risk of fraud.

For example, in France, fraud risks related to mobile payments were very or fairly important for more than two-thirds of adults using this payment method. In Poland, a certain percentage of mobile shoppers not only had problems with paying, but also found the payment method inconvenient, as stated in the publication.
