Ryan Reynolds has a deal with Mint Mobile

Ryan Reynolds is on the verge of a multi-million dollar payout, and it has nothing to do with Deadpool 3.

Telecom giant T-Mobile US Inc. TMUS announced Wednesday that it plans to buy Ka’ena Corp., the parent company of prepaid units Mint Mobile and Ultra Mobile and wholesaler Plum, in a $1.35 billion deal to buy a deal that is 39% cash and 61% cash. Share.

The final purchase price will be determined by Ka’ena’s performance after closing, which is expected to occur later this year.

Back in 2019, Reynolds became a part owner of Mint Mobile, a company that bills itself as a bare-bones wireless carrier with low prices and owns between 20% and 25% of the company, according to a 2021 New York Post report. T-Mobile said Reynolds will “continue his creative role on behalf of Mint.”

And actor Reynolds had plenty to say about his latest deal, with the prankster joking that T-Mobile had beaten an offer from his mother to take over the company.

“Mint Mobile is the best wireless offering and today’s news only enhances our ability to deliver for our customers. We are so fortunate that T-Mobile beat my mother Tammy Reynolds to an aggressive last minute offer as we believe the excellence of her 5G network will provide a better strategic fit than my mother’s slightly above average mahjong skills.” , Reynolds joked in a video clip shared on his social media channels. “I’m so proud of the entire Mint team and so excited for what’s to come.”

And the sale, when completed, will result in a huge payday for the actor – who, joking aside, is proving to be a true business mogul.

It’s possible this sale could net Reynolds more than $100 million, depending on Mint Mobile’s valuation within the $1.35 billion deal. According to the New York Post, Mint wanted to be acquired in 2021 at a value of $600 million to $800 million.

Representatives from Reynolds and Mint Mobile did not respond to MarketWatch’s request for comment on the story.

According to Forbes, Reynolds’ net worth was $71.5 million as of June 2020 — and that was before his big deals in Aviation Gin and Mint Mobile, meaning he likely has a lot more in the bank now.

And he’s becoming one of the top businessmen in Hollywood. In 2020, he sold his Aviation Gin brand to Diageo for at least $335 million.

He is also one of the owners of Welsh football club Wrexham AFC alongside actor Rob McElhenney. In addition, he is a member of the MTCH Board of Directors of Match Group, has an equity interest in FuboTV FUBO and is a co-founder of a production and advertising company, Maximum Effort.

Mint Mobile is led by founder and CEO David Glickman, who said he was initially impressed by Reynolds as the pitchman during the press session for the first Deadpool film. And besides “Deadpool”, Reynolds is best known for his roles in films like “The Proposal”, “Mississippi Grind”, “Buried” – and for his self-referential and self-deprecating humor.

As part of the deal, T-Mobile says it will maintain Mint’s flagship phone service pricing of $15 per month.

Shares of T-Mobile fell 1.55% on Wednesday afternoon.
