Samsung rolls out November update to Galaxy S22 in the US

Samsung has released the November 2022 Android security patch for the Galaxy S22 series in the US. Both carrier-locked and unlocked variants of the phones get the latest security update in the US. The new version comes shortly after the update to Android 13.

The November SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra ships with firmware version S90*USQU2BVK1 for the carrier-locked devices and S90*U1UEU2BVK1 for the unlocked devices. The update is available to users of most carriers including T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, Xfinity Mobile, Bluegrass Cellular, and Comcast. The remaining few airlines should also soon join the party.

Samsung’s official changelog for this update states that the Galaxy S22 phones will receive stability improvements for some features. It could mean some system optimizations that make the devices more stable. But don’t hope for new features here. It’s been barely three weeks since the latest Samsung flagships received the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 stable update in the US. It brought tons of new features and improvements to the devices. Maybe Samsung will tweak some of the new features with this version.

Apart from that, the November SMR patches more than 60 vulnerabilities on Galaxy smartphones. According to Samsung, most of these were problems with the Android operating system, which Google patched accordingly. The Android manufacturer has classified three of them as critical vulnerabilities. The remaining issues patched this month are Galaxy specific. These items, known as Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE), do not affect other brands of Android devices. The Korean company patched 26 SVE items with the November SMR. Note that some vulnerabilities are not present on all devices, but most are.

The Galaxy S22 series gets the November security update

Samsung started rolling out the Android 113 update to the Galaxy S22 series in the last week of October. The big Android update came with the October patch. And while the company is busy updating other phones to Android 13, it has taken its time releasing the latest SMR for the flagships. The rollout of the November security update for the Galaxy S22 range has started in the US but should soon reach other parts of the world.

As usual, the update can be downloaded by navigating to Settings > Software update on the phone and tapping Download and install. Just keep in mind that not everyone will get the new version at the same time. Therefore, you may have to check several times before the update will appear for you.
