Scarlett Johansson reflects on ‘bizarre’ sex scene with Joaquin Phoenix, having ‘fake orgasm’

Scarlett Johansson has opened up about her awkward and “weird” sex scene with Joaquin Phoenix.

In the 2013 film Her, the actress opened up about how sick it was to hear her fake orgasm on set.

Johansson revealed that Phoenix had trouble recording audio for her sex scenes in Spike Jonze’s film.

The Oscar nominee insisted, “You definitely don’t want to hear what you sound like when you have a fake orgasm.”

“I remember we walked in that day,” the Black Widow star began explaining on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast.

“I’ve become that actor who says, ‘Let’s get dirty.’ I have to, because otherwise I’m petrified. Joaquin walks in, we’re trying to get through a take and he’s kind of lost his composure. He said, ‘I can’t do this.’”

The 37-year-old actress opened up about how her co-star had already shot the entire film when she replaced Samantha Morton for the speaking role and some scenes had to be reshot.

“He was like angry… he already had that [filmed the scene]he had done it personally, and now he was in this weird theater with me, and I’m in this box, and he’s staring at me, and the lights are dim, and Spike’s there… it was so bizarre,” Johansson said.

Shepard continued to joke with Johansson, asking if they had cocktails for some liquid guts before filming the sex scene.

“We definitely didn’t have cocktails,” she replied.

“I was fine. Joaquin didn’t — he was so upset about it,” she noted.

“He left the studio, and now I’m alone in this box and I’m like, ‘I can’t do it alone. I need him to come back.’ He needed a break, he took a break and came back.”

The film Her is an American science fiction romantic drama about a lonely writer – played by Phoenix – who has developed an unlikely relationship with an artificial intelligence operating system – played by Johansson – to meet his needs.

“I haven’t seen this movie for a long time, but I bet if I did, I would be so ashamed,” Johansson reflected on the uncomfortable and embarrassing situation. “It’s tough.”
