SHADOW LEGENDS’ $1 billion MOBILE GAME franchise will be made into an animated limited series

Animated series culminates in three years of work and includes creative executives from Marvel and DC Cinematic Universe

The series, based on the multi-billion dollar RPG strategy game RAID: Shadow Legends, will consist of 10 five-minute weekly episodes, set to premiere on YouTube on May 18, 2023. The animated series highlights the main characters of RAID with deeper, more immersive storylines while delivering cinema-quality animation.

The game RAID: Shadow Legends has quickly become one of the fastest growing collection RPGs with over 75 million downloads across all platforms of over $1 billion in lifetime earnings. The turn-based fantasy game immerses players and features over 700 collectible champions from 15 different factions. With this new series, RAID fans can look forward to learning the origins of some of their most beloved champions, discovering surprises throughout the series that come with in-game rewards, and several other collaborations that offer an immersive experience that transforms the game and the series connects .

The development of RAID: Call of the Arbiter was a global effort involving over 400 people from across the Pixel United portfolio, including team members from RAID: Shadow Legends who are based in or expelled from Ukraine. The game RAID: Shadow Legends was launched by the Ukraine-based Plarium Global creative studio almost five years ago, and this team continues to work on the top 20 games from Ukraine and at locations across Western Europe, including the new one State-of-the-art studio in Warsaw, Poland.

The animated series is set in the world of Teleria, a land seemingly forsaken by its gods and torn by warring factions locked in endless conflict. The central character that stems from the game’s core story is an ancient guardian named Arbiter who seeks a way to return to the world. She must summon a team of unlikely champions to ignite the spark that will quell the darkness.

Eric Rollman, CEO of Rollman Entertainment and past president of Marvel Television and Animation, will produce the series. He is responsible for bringing Marvel to television and was one of Haim Saban’s first key employees, helping to propel the success of the Power Rangers franchise. More recently, he worked with ballerina, writer and producer Misty Copeland on an animated ballet series and was supervising producer of Skylanders Academy, a Netflix original animated series from Activision Blizzard Studios.

Jay Oliva, founder and CEO of animation studio Lex + Otis, is the showrunner of the series. An animation industry veteran and former Netflix executive producer, Oliva has directed a dozen animated films for Marvel and DC, including The Dark Knight Returns and the acclaimed Young Justice series. He was previously recruited by Zack Snyder to storyboard the DC Cinematic Universe beginning with Man of Steel and is currently the showrunner for several animated series including the Netflix show Trese and ARK: The Animated Series.

Plarium also partnered with TeamTO, one of Europe’s leading creative animation companies, whose previous work includes the Emmy-nominated Angelo Rules. BAFTA-winning Danish composer Jesper Kyd, known for providing iconic music for blockbuster video game franchises such as Assassin’s Creed and Borderlands, created original music for the animated series. Additionally, Lex + Otis’ Kendall Deacon Davis served as the series’ lead writer. He was also the lead writer on ARK: The Animated Series starring Russel Crowe.
