Shanghai has released an action plan to boost the industries of the future by building and developing more industrial clusters.
It aims to achieve a total output value of about 500 billion yuan (US$69.79 billion) in the industries of the future by 2030, and form a number of leading global advanced industrial clusters, including intelligent computing and artificial general intelligence, from 2035 onwards , quantum technology, 6G technology, etc.
In order to promote independent innovation in core technologies, the city establishes future industry research institutes, with plans to establish about five future technology colleges and cultivate about 15 future industry innovation centers.
It also aims to set up a series of innovation coalitions and open a two-way channel linking basic research and applied basic research with industrialization.
In order to strengthen the future engine of the future development of industrial clusters, Shanghai is building five future industrial clusters, building about 15 pioneering areas for the industries of the future, dealing with about a hundred core components, launching a hundred high-end products and continuing education Hundred “Chinese standards” to promote industrial agglomeration and leading development.
It will also form a future paradigm for small, medium and large enterprise innovation and set goals to encourage about 10 leading enterprises to expand their business in the industries of the future, develop about 20 environmentally-oriented enterprises, and build about a hundred enterprise technology centers and nurture a thousand high-tech enterprises, which will promote the integration and mutual development of enterprises of all types of ownership.
In order to create an open and inclusive ecology with an accumulation of factors, the city actively participates in international major science programs and projects, brings in a number of senior strategic scientists and entrepreneurs, and continuously optimizes innovation ecology.
In terms of industrial cluster design, the city plans to build clusters of future healthcare industries – including brain-machine interface (BMI), biosecurity, synthetic biology, and gene and cell therapy – in the Pudong New Area and Baoshan, Minhang districts , Jinshan and Fengxian.
In districts including Pudong, Xuhui, Yangpu, Baoshan, Minhang, Jiading and Qingpu, intelligent computing, artificial general intelligence, augmented reality, quantum technology and 6G technology industry clusters are being developed.
Also in the future energy industries with advanced nuclear power and advanced energy storage, the future space sectors including deep sea exploration and airspace utilization, and the future material industries, industrial clusters will be established in different districts.
